RECEIVES CAMERA VERDICT Doctor C. N. Outlasts Eblis by Margin of Nose at Charles Town. Overcomes Considerable Interference to Earn Decision in Hotly Contested Finish Track Still Frozen. CHARLES TOWN, W. Va., Dec. 16. Doctor C. N., racing for J. Stillman received the camera verdict after the about seven furlongs fifth race that brought together the best field on the semi-final day of racing at Charles Town. ,000 top and bottom platers contested the race and the victory of the winner was a well deserved one as he overcame considerable interference to get up in the final stride for the nose decision. Eblis, early pacemaker just failed to last for the major award while the duel of the first pair brought them home five lengths before Tuleyries Star, which was third. The winner was ridden by jockey Anthony Vesseli and the victory marked his second trip to the winners circle. He had piloted Crooked Lane to success in the third race. The score was also the second in two starts for Doctor C. N. at the meeting. Eblis, showed the most early speed of the band of eight and when he had been hustled clear in the lead he was taken in hand and nursed in front and on the rail. Saving ground he continued to hold sway at all poles shaking off in turn stiff bids for supremacy from Shantime and Tuleyries Star. REPEATED BLOCKING. On the final bend DQctor C. N., which had made bids to enter closer contention when racing on the inside only to meet with repeated blocking was taken to the outside. When clear he circled his rivals with a display of speed that soon had him in second place. Throughout the length of the stretch he was placed under stiff punishment and answering the demand, slowly decreased the advantage of the leader to get up in the final stride. French Trap, favorite, turned in a very disappointing performance. She trailed the field far back in the early racing and her belated burst of speed at the end could do no better than to enable her to pass tiring horses to be fourth. The weather remained unchanged, clear and crisp, while the track also remained frozen in parts. The semi-final days attendance was well up to standard. Two-year-olds met under allowance conditions in the fourth race, over the Charles Town course, and Air Win, racing for E. A. Stone and ridden by jockey Freddie Faust, led the opposition. Two lengths in the wake of the victor, Tanganyika was a fast-closing second and a similar distance away Oddesa Romeo was third. UNEXPECTED TRIUMPH. Grey Flash, a three-year-old filly hitherto a non-winner and making her first start since the Sportsmans Park meeting, drove to an unexpected triumph in the opening race. This was a dash of about four and one-half furlongs, for platers in the 00 top and bottom claiming bracket. The success of the winner was a front-running race and at the end she was hard pressed to earn a neck decision over Rocky Mount, while a similar distance away Billie Dee Or was third. The winner paid 8.60. Age proved no detriment to eleven-year-old Dunsany as the old fellow was a front-running victor of the second race. Hard pressed at the end to maintain a neck advantage, his score was registered at the direct expense of Canter Belle, while Nimule was third, one and one-half lengths away. The winner was vigorously handled by jockey Leon Garrett. Racing for Mrs. F. White, Crooked Lane found the distance, track conditions and opposition to his liking as he coasted to victory four lengths before Hair Trigger at the end of the six and one-half furlongs third race. Three and one-half lengths away, Campo was third. Brooke Herod scored his second success in three starts at the meeting when he was able to retain an advantage of three-quarters of a length at the end of the mile and one-sixteenth sixth race. Sandy Belle, which had forced the pace of the winner in the final six furlongs, was second and the fast-closing Strophe took third.
