FAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES ,j 5 Frank C. Podesta, Memphis sportsman and owner of a stable of horses which are being rested up until the opening of Oak-lawn Park, was a visitor at the Fair Grounds this afternoon. J. D. "Whitey" Wilson reports that Mrs. J. D. Wilsons Fiddle Faddle, which was unloaded here prior to the start of the Fair Grounds meeting in an ailing condition is steadily recovering and will be ready for racing shortly. Old Field, winner of many distance races at the Fair Grounds in past seasons, has been -retired from racing for life by L. L. Chambers. Stall applications for Hollywood Park, new Florida track, scheduled to open on January 18, reached the Fair Grounds today and are being distributed to horsemen by racing secretary R. A. Leigh, Sr. Tommy Powell stopped off in New Orleans for a few days en route from his home in Cincinnati, to Miami. Powell will remain in the Everglades State for the balance of the winter. The horses of Leo M. Biggs of Detroit, will be trained by Jack Williams during the absence of Jake Angner, who left for Miami, Fla., to submit to an eye operation. The horses Williams is looking after are Busby, Rustic Joe and Royal Link. Apprentice Henry Romaine will depart shortly for Oriental Park, Havana, Cuba, where he will sport silks during that meeting. Romaine has found it difficult obtaining mounts and Paul Morris, his contract employer, will lease out the services of the boy.
