The weights for the Dixie Handicap will be announced on March 15 and it is expected that the outstandinj handicap horses of the year will be named and also the foremost contenders for the honors in the two rich winter handicaps the Santa Anita Handicap and the Widener Challenge Cup, both to be decided on March 4. The continuation of the "stake a day" policy was not surprising, as the Maryland Jockey Club has experienced considerable success with the plan although a coughing epidemic tended to detract from a most promising schedule of daily stakes features last spring. Nomination blanks for the Dixie Handicap and the Pimlico Oaks will be distributed early in January and the blanks for the nine other events will be available in February.
