ATTACK MAYOR F. H. LaGUARDIA NEW YORK, N. Y., Dec. 20 Mayor F. H. LaGuardia yesterday fought off with his hands a man who leaped at him on the steps of City Hall and grappled with the pudgy chief magistrate. LaGuardia swung out wildly as they met and in a moment he and his attacker were rolling around on the stone steps of City Hall. Onlookers hauled the Mayors attacker to his feet. They held him while LaGuardia, panting and breathless, regained his own feet. The attacker gave the name of James F. Hagen, a resident of the Bronx. A relief demonstration had been in progress just before the Mayors arrival. Whether the Mayors attacker was a participant in the demonstration was not learned. Hagen identified himself as a former WPA worker who had borne a grudge against LaGuardia since his lay-off from the WPA.
