SAMMY WILLIAMS FINAL APPEARANCES AS APPRENTICE NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 20. Sammy Williams, third ranking American jockey of 1938, will make his final appearances as an apprentice Wednesday afternoon at the Fair Grounds. The flashy Texan, who lost many opportunities during the year to top the list of jockeys because of injuries sustained in spills, piloted the first winner of his career at Tropical Park on December 22, 1937. Williams, who is under contract to James C. Ellis, president of the Dade Park Jockey Club and owner of a large stable which is represented here this winter, will continue to do most of the stables riding. Apprentice. A. Sorsen is with the stable also and will be aboard the horses for which trainer Olin Johnson claims the apprentice allowance.
