Howell Defeats Tinsley, Daily Racing Form, 1938-12-21

HOWELL DEFEATS TINSLEY Tommy Howell, Danville, 111., battler, earned a split decision over Bob Tinsley of Chicago in the main bout at the Marigold Gardens Monday night. Referee Phil Collins tabulated 42-38. points in favor of the winner, with judge William OConriell voting 43-37 in favor of Howell, too. The other judge, "Rube" Metz, favored Tinsley, 41-39.
