tSANTA ANITA TURF NOTES 4 Gates will be open at Santa Anita Park at 10 a. m. for the fifth winter racing season on Saturday, December 31. First race on opening day starts at 1 p. m. Daily post time thereafter will be 1:30 p. m. Private ceremony will be held at 11 a. m. to dedicate the new fountain in the paddock f gardens in memory of H. Kingsbury, former president of the Standard Oil Company of California, who served as a director of the Los Angeles Turf Club before his death last year. Box and reserved seats were sold out for opening day. General admission tickets at .10 tax paid and clubhouse tickets reduced to .20 tax paid will be on sale at the track. A limited number of box seats and grandstand reserved seats will be sold on holidays and -Saturdays throughout, the season at .10 extra to general admission. The new covered saddling paddock, facing f the walking ring; removal of the top story of the judges stand with a winners circle alongside, extending into the terrace; new plan of officiating with the five stewards located around the course on stewards stands by the inner rail; jockey changes and overweight bulletin boards in the infield; remodeling receiving barn are expected to improve the racing and add to the pleasure of tha spectators. A brilliant new mid-winter flower display, presenting a magic carpet of blooming colors is promised. More than 1,000,000 plants have been set out by hand and shrubs and trees have been added throughout the park. There are sixty-five acres of lawns in the infield alone. St kes and purse3 to be distributed during the fifty-two day meeting will total about 17,000 for a daily average of 7,634.62 an all time record. It has been estimated that close to 2,500 will be employed at Santa Anita. W. C. Merrick, vanned his charges to Santa Anita from Tanforan.
