TROPICAL MEETING PROFITS Coral Gables Course Staging Highly Successful Session Mutuel Handle Well Above Last Meeting. MIAMI, Fla., April 3. Tropical has picked up 00,000 over the corresponding meeting of 1938 and it is believed that figure will be increased to ,000,000 before the close. The totals for the entire session of this year are running 00,000 above last year. These figures are remarkable, considering the fact that the Hialeah meeting was 1 per cent off that of last year. The course, with comparatively small operating expenses, will show a much higher profit than the Miami Jockey Club, it ib anticipated. The regular meeting ends Saturday, but an extra day is scheduled the following Monday to raise funds for the Florida exhibits at the New York World Fair. Secretary Shelley says that trainers have pledged him plenty of horses to fill the added card. The Tropical handicap should attract one of the largest throngs of the season, even though tourists have been streaming out of Miami for days. The extra day should also prosper since all badges will be honored, a practice that is not customary on benefit days. Virtually all track employes will remain on for the world fair sport. Then there will be a general migration to eastern points, especially to Maryland, New York and New England tracks.
