INTERVENE IN RATE CASE WASHINGTON, D. C, April 3. The Interstate Commerce Commission today authorized the state of New York, through its attorney-general, John J. Bennett, to intervene in the case involving freight rates to and from the New York port. The state of New Jersey is seeking changes in the freight rate adjustments in the area. The chamber alleged that the "changes in the freight rate adjustments apparently sought by the state of New Jersey would cause great and irreparable injury to petitioner members, whose business had been built up, whose property has been invested and who have undertaken projects in reliance on the present freight rate adjustment that has long been in effect and which the commission approved in the New York harbor case and the Lighterage cases."
