SUN 1NPLAY WINS AGAIN Third Consecutive. Victory for the Courageous Sun Briar Racer. Charlton Also Completes a Saddle Double on Veit Cplorbearer Dark, Threatening Day. MIAMI, Fla., April 3. K. A. Veits Sun Inplay ran a game race to score his third straight victory. Chuck Charlton rode him home in the San Carlos Purse this afternoon, but the son of Sun Briar, a heavily-backed favorite, gave his backers heart failure before he finally reached the judges stand in front. In his last race Francesco appeared to have beaten Sun Inplay a sixteenth out, only to have the Veit racer come again and outgame him. Today Bert Friends Co-Sport looked Sun Inplay in the eye at the same point and the latter came again to beat his challenger by a neck. The winner was the only horse in the pack of five that is not eligible for the ?10,000 Tropical Handicap Saturday. Sun Inplays score marked the second victory of the afternoon for Charlton. The Sun Briar colt finished the distance in 1:42, time that was just a fifth of a second off Our Ketchams track record. The day was dark and threatening, and a light shower, which did not affect track conditions, fell earlier in the afternoon. A small crowd was out to see them run. BUTTERMILK QUITS. Joe Pepps No Sir finished third in the San Carlos, a length off the runner-up. Bobs Boys was fourth. Buttermilk, which forced the early pace, finished last in the field, quitting after six furlongs had been completed. Sun Inplay took the lead as they went around the clubhouse turn, with Buttermilk sticking to him closely as the field charged down the back stretch. As Buttermilk began to tire- on the far turn, Co-Sport swept up to challenge. The latter was only half a length off the winner as they entered the stretch. Co-Sport continued to gain down the home stretch and drew alongside Sun Inplay at the sixteenth post. It appeared certain that he would go by and win drawing off. But Sun Inplay had plenty left, came on again in courageous fashion, and held a narrow lead to the end. No Sir trailed early but came fast in the final eighth to take third. ODDS-ON VICTORIOUS. R. Robertsons Bright and Early, a heavily backed odds-on favorite, won the opener just as odds-on favorites should, leading every step of the distance. He was going easily at the end to beat G. R. Yeargins Moss Gal by two lengths. Jimmy Ashcroft, far in the lead over the riders here, increased his imposing Continued on eighteenth page. Wienengas Balkos Maid surrendered second place in the final strides, finishing a neck off the runner-up. Just High, which forced the pace early, tired in the drive and wound up a distant fourth. The time was 1:12 flat. Mrs. M. A. Tuckers Pekaki, a warm paddock tip, raced home in front in a three-noses-on-the-post finish in the five and one-half furlongs second event. C. B. Ashers Honeymaid was second and C. A. ONeil Jr.s Dongy another nose back. Wise Attorney finished fourth, a head in advance of the favored Predestined. The latter was probably best in the event. She was knocked back at the start, taken wide when making her bid at the stretch and then ridden very weakly in the stretch by Joe Renick. Porter Roberts was astride the winner, which had not been to the races since last fall. She completed the journey in 1:07 flat. River Divides Court o Mint romped home in front in the half-mile two-year-old event, setting all the pace and finishing four lengths in the van of J. W. Barnes fast-closing What Fun. J. Kellys Nutty was third, a length and one-half back of Totache, a distant fourth. American Money, the favorite, failed to raise a gallop and ran next to last in the field of nine, beating only Doris Betty, which broke far behind the field. Chuck Charlton was astride the winner, which completed the four furlongs in :47.
