FIRST PAWTUGKET ARRIVALS Mixed Carload of Horses Comes From Miami Mrs. W. H. Canes Quartet Is Included. PAWTUCKET, R. I., April 3. The first shipment of horses for the 1939 season arrived at Narragansett this morning in the shape of a mixed carload from Hialeah Park. The shipment came by express, making the trip in forty-eight hours. Included were four head, owned by Mrs. W. H. Cane, wife of the New Jersey racing commissioner. They are Sugarage, Amercup, Kingoo and Hasty Rose. Mrs. Canes string will race here with twelve additional head being brought from Goshen, N. Y., by trainer Harvey Campbell. Others in the shipment arriving were Harp Weaver and OCleary, owned by H. E. Barnett of Boston; Little Banner, owned by B. A. Dario, Pawtucket sportsman; Lady Genie and Wispy, owned by Mrs. S. A. Ketchell, and Weary Flower, Affirmation, Sharp Girl and Nebraska City, of Geata Irrain Stable, trained by J. Sullivan. Todays arrivals were the first to reach Gansett for the spring meeting, which opens April 22. The consignment stood the trip well and, after a short walk to rid them of their train legs, were stabled in stalls that had been prepared for them. Other shipments are due and it is expected that 300 horses will be quartered within the park by Tuesday. The track kitchen and restaurant was opened to accommodate the trainers and stabl j help arriving with the horses.
