DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE REPORT ON GERMAN BUND WASHINGTON, D. C, April 3. Dissemination of anti-Jewish propaganda and the perpetuation of Germanism abroad are among the principal objectives of the German-American Bund in this country, the department of justice reported today. Making public a detailed report of German activities in the United States, the department turned up little evidence that had not already been developed by various congressional committees. The Bund, headed by Fritz Kuhn, its national leader, had a total membership at the end of 1937 of between 6,000 and 8,000. The department found no evidence that Bund members drilled with rifles or other firearms. The report made no recommendations, nor did it comment in any way on any of the varied activities carried on by the organization. As the report was completed more than a year ago, it is unlikely that the department will take any criminal action on the basis of the evidence disclosed by the investigation. Officials explained that a new inquiry was initiated recently and it was possible that prosecution of certain Nazi movement lead-I ers might result from the later investigation.
