HYLAND, permitted to settle in his best stride and outrun until the closing three-eighths, moved up gradually thereafter and, catching the leaders tiring when reaching the stretch; drew out steadily. OLD MAIN ROAD, sluggish during the early running, began giving improved speed after leaving the back stretch and finished determinedly through the stretch. STAR PUPIL, in closest pursuit of the early pace established by MISS HOPEFUL, held on well, although unable to go along with the leaders in the closing drive. HEADMISTRESS, under punishment during the first three-sixteenths, moved up gamely, although unable to reach the leaders. COUNTRY JIM, on the outside all the way, was unable to threaten under punishment. MISS HOPEFUL quit after coing a half mile. BOLIS trailed throughout. Scratched 72534 Just an Idea, 106. MISS TAD raced to the front at once, drew clear in the run through the back stretch, increased her lead after going three-eighths and, hard ridden through the stretch, held sway to the close. GAY WORLD moved through on the inside during the first quarter mile, was placed under punishment after being brought to tha outside for the closing test and closed willingly under punishment. FAIR SCOUT, shuffled back in the opening sixteenth, came determinedly in the closing three-sixteenths. PRIMER had early speed, then tired during the closing five-sixteenths. BRIGHT SOX," avoiding the pace for the first half mile, drove through on the inside of the leaders entering the stretch, responded gamely to pressure and was going away at the end. MIXED WEATHER displayed speed from the start, met determined opposition from TIME INTERVAL and, disposing of her, held on gamely under punishment, although unable to cope with the closing bid of the winner. BLUE GROTTO, away slowly, was rushed up fast on the outside, gained a slight lead when reaching the stretch, but the effort took too much out of her and she had nothing left for the closing test, barely outlasting TIME INTERVAL. The latter offered bold early opposition, then tired during the last three-sixteenths. The others were unable to keep up. Overweight Pepper Patch, 2 pounds. FOURTH RACE 31 MDLE Out of Chute. VIAJERO raced to the front immediately, opened up a good lead during the first three-sixteenths and, rated along under slight restraint, had enough in reserve to hold RAMROD safe. The latter, under slight restraint while in near pursuit of the leaders, was caught in close quarters ncaring the far turn and had to be taken back, moved up gamely when obtaining racing room and was slowly overtaking the leader at tho close. GRACE GRIER was unable to keep pace early, finishing with good energy through the stretch and was along in the last few strides to wear down COSMIC PRINCE. The latter raced well placed for the first half mile, then tired steadily thereafter. CIRCUS NIGHT faltered when called upon. LE MISERABLE was outrun. Overweight Circus Night, 4 pounds. CHIEF NADI, avoiding the early pace and under steadying restraint for the first half mile, responded . in determined fashion when reaching the stretch, disposed of the leaders approaching the closing sixteenth and held on long enough to hold the fast-closing STEPHEN JAY. The latter, slow to begin, trailed his company until leaving the back stretch, was brought to the outside for the closing test and, finishing stoutly, was going fastest at the end. TERPSICHORE was forwardly placed throughout and fought it out with good energy. OUR CREST, hard ridden while disputing the pace, tired in the closing seventy yards. WILLIAM PALMER was unable to reach the leaders. POSTERITY, hard ridden to hold a prominent position, faltered under pressure in the last three-sixteenths. DINNER JACKET moved up gradually on the outside approaching the .far turn, disposed of GALA STAR for the lead and, holding on gamely, had enough in reserve to hold the fast-closing TO THE RESCUE. The latter, shuffled back at the start and unable to reach the leaders during the first three-eighths, moved up stoutly when obtaining clear sailing and, finishing with good energy, was catching the winner with every stride at the end. GLENBROOM, reserved until the last quarter mile, moved up determinedly when called upon and, while unable to go along with the leaders during the last eighth, held on stubbornly. GALA STAR displayed good speed for the first half mile, faltering thereafter. MERE BLAZE was unable to better his position under pressure. TIME CLOCK was taken under slight restraint when outrun during the first quarter mile, was steadied along until leaving the back stretch, then was placed under intermittent punishment and, wearing down the pacemaker, drew out steadily. INACTIVE, under slight reserve while holding to a forward position, came willingly during the stretch run when placed under hard urging. SKIPPED took command on the first turn, was rated along under slight reserve, made a determined effort to go along with the leader when challenged, but was not good enough. SAIDONA was unable to threaten the leaders at any stage of the journey. BEAVER COUNTY -was unable to better his position during the last half mile. Scratched 72993 Powers Gouraud, 109. PEACHYPIE, away slowly, trailed her field into the back stretch, obtained clear sailing on the inside leaving the back stretch, continued to save ground throughout and, catching the leaders in the stretch, drew out in the last sixteenth. STEPACOLA, under slight restraint while following in pursuit of the early pacemaker, gained a slight lead in the stretch, but was unable to maintain her advantage under punishment. ELLEN II., taken back after reaching the back stretch, came to the outside for the closing test and was along in the concluding stride to wear down DIANAPAT. The latter drew clear straightening out in the back stretch and was rated along in front, faltering during the last three-sixteenths.
