EASTERN STARS COMING El Chico and Several Stablemates to Leave New York Sunday. Challedon and Porters Mite "Will Leave Maryland on Thursday Our Mat May Be Among Shipments. LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 25 El Chico, Challedon and Porters Mite, among the foremost invading contenders for the sixty-fifth Kentucky Derby, were due at the scene of that 0,000 race locale, Churchill Downs within the next few days, and their presence will augment an already formidable array of intended starters now in Louisville. El Chico, winter favorite for the Derby and still one of the choices for the Blue Grass special, is to leave New York Sunday, according to word received by Churchill Downs officials from Matt Brady, trainer of the William Ziegler, Jr., colt, while Challedon, the hope of W. L. Brann, and Porters Mite, owned by William E. Boeing, are scheduled to leave Maryland Thursday. Brady has made reservations for several of El Chicos stablemates and it is possible that Our Mat, the reserve Derby candidate In the Ziegler string, will be included in the shipment. tt :..i ttm -iu: nv.iij j -Porters Mite will join a locally-quartered colony of probable Derby starters, which includes Herbert M. Woolfs Technician, Mrs. .Bessie Franzheims Xalapa Clown, Mrs. Cecil Gregorys Lostagal, William H. Whitehouses American Byrd, Theodore E. Muellers Time-ful, Junius W. Bells Steel Heels and John Marschs Lightspur. CLARK HANDICAP INTEREST. While interest in the Derby is steadily mounting, horsemen and fans are not overlooking the Clark Handicap, and preparations for Churchill Downs opening day feature next Saturday. The race is fashioned for three-year-olds and older horses and will be contested at a mile and one-sixteenth. A number of horses are training for the ,500 added feature and it is expected to bring together a large and strong field. Some of the horses expected to be found among the starters are Tiger and Military, from the Milky Way Farm stable; Joe Schenck and Robert L., colorbearers of the Woolford Farm; Bert Friends Co-Sport, George M. Hendries Poona and Ridge, Louise J. Hickmans Arabs Arrow, Dixianas Torchy, I. J. Collins Bernard F., M. J. Schmitts Sortie Star, Tall Trees Stables Last Message and Jesse Spencers Our Willie. It is not unlikely that Piccolo, Galsun or Supremador, the Boeing stables Clark nominees, will be sent here with Porters Mite. Some of the Clark Handicap eligibles seen in training moves at Churchill Downs this morning were Poona, Ridge, Co-Sport, Sortie Star, Joe Schenck and Robert L. Co-Sport, Poona and Ridge turned in especially good trials, the Friend four-year-old traveling a handy mile in 1:42, and the other two, working together, covering the same distance in 1:42.
