KEENELAND FOOTING SLOPPY Armor Bearer Outfinishes Silverette by Head in the Feature. Tiger, The Fighter and Gold Flag Withdrawn From Main Event Arcaros Skill Factor In Victory. LEXINGTON, Ky April 25. Sloppy going prevailed at Keeneland Park again this afternoon as the result of heavy showers during the morning and numerous withdrawals were made, including three prominent members of the featured Calumet Farm field Tiger, The Fighter and Gold Flag. With them as absentees, the six furlongs dash resulted in a head victory for the Greentree Stables Armor Bearer over Gai-rett Watts Silverette, the favorite. Wise Barrister, from the Blue Ridge Farm stable, was a length back of the leaders and a similar distance before Southland Beau. Despite the return to inclement weather, a good sized crowd was in attendance and wagering was brisk throughout the program. The clouds scattered during mid-afternoon, permitting the sun to shine again and a good track was in prospect for tomorrow. ARCAROS STRONG RIDING. Eddie Arcaros strong handling of Armor Bearer was a factor in the victory of the four-year-old gelding by St. Brideaux Gallant Lass. He sent his mount through between horses leaving the back stretch and then gave him powerful riding in the stretch to wear down Silverette. The favorite had been sent to the front at flag fall and set the pace under careful rating, drawing away from Armor Bearer near the stretch turn when that horse moved up, but she wasnt able to stave off his late bid. Wise Barrister advanced on the inside on the turn and was going well in the stretch when blocked by Silverette as the latter came over slightly. Grey Streak and Miss Bull Dog were well up in the early stages, with the latter being knocked off stride on the far turn and failing to recover. Armor Bearer, which had been given good support, was timed in 1:13. A. L. Ferguson uncovered a fast colt in Black Brummel, which took the Glenview Purse, for maiden two-year-olds, by four lengths easily, completing the Headley Course in the sloppy going in :46, within four-fifths of a second of the track record. J. C. Milams Merricks Place, the favorite, was second, three lengths before Valdina Farms Valdina Masque, as Whim Wham was fourth among the eleven starters. -FKOFiTS BY BAD START. A bad start, from which Wise Greenock gained a two-length advantage, enabled the Glad Acres Farm colt to win the opening event, as his margin at the end of the dash over the Headley course was only a head over Shandon Farms Cooperstown, while Greentree Stables Mimosa was lapped on the latter. Perfect Maid was a well-beaten fourth among the dozen maiden juveniles meeting under claiming conditions. Brilliant Gold was the favorite but he had no chance with the start. Greenlawn Farms Gibbys Tornado, coupled with Grand Child in the "field," won the second race by a nose over Gin Fritters, as Uphold was a length and a half away. J. Richai"d guided the winner, which wore down Gin Fritters in a long stretch drive after the latter had set the pace from soon after the start. Little Empress, owned by J. P. Hall and ridden by M. Quintero, took an early lead and held it all the way in the third race, another six furlongs dash. At the end the veteran daughter of Kai-Sang was a length and a half before Surprise Box and Moorish, which were separated by a head. Lenpola, the favorite, was fourth after being well up from the start and making a wide turn into the stretch. Queens Advice, Dunn and Knickerbockers good filly, bucked her shins in Saturdays engagement and will be out of competition for some time. Charles A. Kenney motored to Louisville to inspect the horses Dan T. Morris has at Churchill Downs for Elmer Dale Shaffer and D. M. Rhodes.
