SUPPLEMENTARIES TO CLASSIC Challedon, Ciencia and Two Others Added to Entries. Addition of Quartet Increases Total Number of Eligibles for Arlington Headliner to Seventy-Seven. Four bright stars of the American three-year-old division have been added to the list of nominations for the 0,000 added Classic Stakes through the medium of the ,500 supplementary entry fees, announced John Hertz, chairman oZ tne Arlington Park Jockey Club executive board, here Tuesday. They were W. L. Branns Challedon, hero of the Pimlico, Maryland and New England Futurities and one of the early Kentucky Derby favorites; King Ranchs Ciencia, filly winner of the 0,000 Santa Anita Derby, which accidentally was not named for the Kentucky Derby; Mrs. Payne Whitneys Day Off, winner of the Louisiana Derby and third to Technician and Volitant in the Flamingo Stakes, and Millsdale Stables Sun Lover, a son of Sun Beau which was a promising late winter development. Addition of these four stars increases the list of eligibles for the most important midsummer test for American three-year-olds to seventy-seven. With the new "futurity" conditions inaugurated this year the Classic Stakes will gross about 5,000 and will net the winning owner about 4,000. Into per- Continued on twenty-seventh page. IMPOSING LIST. "One of the most imposing lists in the history of the race," commented Hertz, "it seems certain to produce a winner worthy of previous Classic heroes, such as the champions Blue Larkspur, Gallant Fox, Cavalcade. Omaha and Granville." Original nominations closed last July 15. with 152 entries, which were refined to a list of seventy-three upon payments of the second fee on January 15. The supplementary nominations closed April 15. Other divisional leaders eligible for tho mile and one-quarter special on July 22 aro George D. Wideners Eight Thirty, William Woodwards Johnstown, Herbert M. Woolfs Technician and Inscoelda, W. E. Boeings Porters Mite, Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Impound, and Col. E. R. Bradleys Benefactor. The Arlington Park meeting will open here on June 26 and will run thirty days, through July 29. An extensive program of improvements are under way already at the huge 1,000-acre racing grounds on Chicagos north side, under direction of Fred A. Radtke, assistant general manager. He reports that applications for stalls are streaming in steadily and predicts that the modern barns will be fully reserved long before opening day.
