HEDON WINNER AT COLUMBUS Lightly Regarded Woodcock and King Racer Upsets Expectations of Public at Beulah Park. COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 25. Hedon, little fancied and from the stable of Woodcock and King, was returned winner of the Her-pichs Drug Stores Trophy, featured event at Beulah Park this afternoon. B Eighty led until midway of the stretch, but Hedon then took command and had sufficient in reserve to withstand the final closing bid of Balkos Maid. B Eighty saved the minor award. Musical Jack, the popular choice, was outrun throughout. Miss Virginia Leonard made the presentation of the trophy following the running, to H. L. King, co-owner of Hedon. Rain threatened during much of the afternoon but the racing was staged over a slow, drying out track, with a crowd of usual midweek day proportions in attendance. Among the visitors today was Charles Otis, stockholder in the Cleveland Jockey Club, who reported that work is progressing most favorably in the rebuilding of the North Randall track, where racing is scheduled to open May 27. Jockey J. Long resumed riding here today after being idle since the close of the Florida season. Jockey J. Piatt was another new addition to the riding colony. Many of the races were productive of rousing finishes. Ancient Times, Miss Marilyn and Our Daughter earned brackets in their respective races by narrow margins after keen struggles all through the final furlong. Bilkan also came from behind in the last eighth to overhaul Bread King in the fifth, but Encircle registered with considerable to spare, drawing away decisively in the j stretch.
