CHOOSES N. Y. ARCHBISHOP VATICAN CITY, April 25 The Rev. Francis J. Spellman, auxiliary bishop of Boston, has been named archbishop of New York by His Holiness, Pope Pius XII. Archbishop Spellman was consecrated a bishop by the present Pope in St. Peters in 1932 when he was Cardinal Pacelli. The New York archbishopric has been vacant since the death of Patrick Cardinal Hayes.
