ELEVEN IN ABERDEEN STAKES Race Not as Valuable as in Previous Years -Reduce Value. Good Contest Expected, However, at Havre de Grace Today Rumba Gus Heads Field. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 25. Eleven of the most highly esteemed two-year-olds on the grounds have been named overnight to match strides here tomorrow in the ,500 added, four and one-half furlongs . Aberdeen Stakes. This test is the outstanding attraction of the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Associations . meeting for youngsters and is expected to produce a contest of the highest order. In years past, the Aberdeen has been worth a lot more to winners than it will be worth this year. Edward Burke, general manager here, reduced the value of the stakes a few years back in order to contribute to the widespread trend toward de-emphasizing iacing of two-year-olds. While it probably is true that the reduction in the stakes value has detracted somewhat from its class, the race, whether offering ,500 or 0,000, invariably is one of the most attractive and entrancing offerings on the Havre de Grace schedule. RUMBA GUS TOP WEIGHT. Topping the field for tomorrows renewal of the Aberdeen, is Gustave Rings Rumba Gus, bay son of Saxon No "Regrets. That this colt will be favored to win goes without saying. His two victories and one second in three outings mark him definitely as the horse to whip. At fhe recent meeting at Bowie, he led his rivals to the wire in the Kindergarten Stakes. Last week, at this point, he only galloped to beat his opponents. Glenn Smith will be astride the Ring representative. Slated to hook up with the fleet son of Saxon are the Stax-mount Stables Damaged Goods, trainer Joe Serio, Jr.s, entry of Ella K., Brysons Imprudent, Jouett Shouses Arden Lass, T. J. Hills Nosy. Hal Price Headleys Cutter and Stagefright, Alviri Un-termyers Cockerel, W. E. Boeings Air-stream, Brandywine Stables Press Time and Maemere Farms Maetran. The Maemere Farm stables representative shipped down from New York especially for the Aberdeen. Off his second in the Vis-caya Purse at Tropical Park, his owner and trainer regard him as a likely prospect for top honors in the Havre de Grace feature. Imprudent, the Bryson colorbearer, a chestnut daughter of Whiskalong Rash Promise, is regarded locally as probably the most formidable of Rumba Gus rivals. This lass won the LaFayette Stakes at the Fair Grounds track, New Orleans, and at this point on last Saturday turned in a sterling performance to win the first race of the day. Arden Lass and Nosy, which will run coupled with Imprudent, ran second and third, respectively, in the Bowie Kindergarten to Rumba Gus. Cockerel showed splendid speed in his first outing at Havre de Grace and turned in a neat victory. In his second showing, however, he was beaten. Airstream has not yet shown much to recommend him. However, he is a member of a smart stable and it may be hell "turn on" tomorrow. Cutter and Stagefright, on the form theyve shown to date, merit little serious attention as Aberdeen contenders. However, the Brandywine candidate, Press Time, may turn out to be the surprise package of the field. This good-looking bay gelded son of Time Maker Richilda ran for ,000 in his lone outing and won under a hard drive. The track was anything but fast that day and . there is a general belief that this lad will show greater speed over the course when it is at its best. The mid-week card arranged by racing secretary Charles J. McLennan is an attractive one and the Aberdeen is supported chiefly by the Oakton Handicap, a dash of six furlongs. Eight shifty sprinters have been named.
