HANDICAP CHIEF EVENT Big Crowd Turns Out for Another Detroit Twilight Program. £iam Burdened With Top Weight of , 115 Pounds in Toledo — Rodriguez Substitutes for Jose Marrero. DETROIT, Mich., June 14.— By far the e most attractive program of the week, which 5 was topped by the Toledo Handicap and included two races at distances of one and d three-sixteenths miles and greater, was offered I- under sunny skies here late this afternoon. Warmer weather prevailed, and this, J no doubt, was responsible for an increased attendance. The clubhouse was fairly well filled and d the dinner reservations in this enclosure was s larger than for any twilight program. Siam, recent arrival from Delaware Park, ** carried the top burden of 115 pounds in the ? Toledo Handicap, but Golden Era, which dead heated for third with Star Boarder in " the Motor City Handicap and was winner of [ a previous start, was the early post favorite. His assignment was 113 pounds. Others to oppose this pair for the run over one mile ie and seventy yards were Wedding Morn, n Show Up, Imperial Sir and Catomar. A late change in riders placed Enrique Rodriguez aboard Catomar, illness forcing Jose Marrero, r. another Cuban rider, to relinquish the ie assignment. DEDICATION EARLY CHOICE. Eddie Wracks absence ;e made no difference to the public, but Dedication a_ was an early favorite for his contest. Hopes that Dixiana would provide the ie "Daily Double" winners were shattered when ;n Highminded was purchased by Lucky Teter ;r early in the afternoon. Petes Niece, however, v_ ran for Dixiana, and, as the change in Highmindeds ownership came too late to t0 make the program, Highminded flaunted the eolferino and buff colors of Dixiana. Seven speedsters were named to oppose se Charles T. Fishers Allegro in tomorrows ■ Open Heart Fund Handicap, at six furlongs, :s, which will feature the Detroit twilight program. o- The son of High Time had a final al drill for the race this morning, speeding a a half mile in :47?3, and trainer Jimmy Smith th j believes the Dixiana crack will be hard to to beat, despite his top impost of 119 pounds. ADDED TO REGULAR PROGRAM. The Open Heart Fund Handicap was added d- to the regular program, and a check for or the commission from the race will be presented e- by the Detroit Racing Association to Mrs. Fred T. Murphy, co-chairman of the ie drive for the worthy fund. Following Allegro in the line of weights is is Mrs. C. C. Winters Night Editor under 115 15 pounds. Basque, surprise winner of the feature of last Thursdays feature, will tote 105 pounds, and then comes Our Willie, also a recent arrival from North Randall, under 103 pounds. Little Drift completes the field under the feather of 95 pounds. Top-notch sprinting platers will run six furlongs in the Twilight Purse that will serve as the seventh race, and a good band of three-year-olds will meet under allowance conditions in the Grosse Pointe Woods Purse and fifth event. Better grade platers will run one mile and seventy yards in the eighth race. Highminded won her first race in two years when she led home Prum, Noahs Pride, a 20-to-l choice, and six others. The four-year-old daughter of Sir Andrew was cleverly handled by Marty Fallon and al- ways in closest pursuit of Frum and Ar- nolds Actor while they raced head and head to the stretch, she forged to the front when inside the final sixteenth to reach the finish with two lengths to spare. Noahs Pride made up ground to carry off third honors, and Arnolds Actor lasted to garner fourth laurels. Ladino, for whom there was strong support, raced far back, and Rail Down, also well regarded, quit badly. Kansascitian held fouth position to the final furlong.
