STEADY DON was hustled into the lead at once, shook off SONNY JOHN when leaving the back stretch, raced into a long lead and was kept under intermittent punishment in the late stages. SONNY JOHN was rushed hard to keep pace with the winner early, fell back on the turn, then failed to menace in the closing test. BILBOQUET was prominent from the start, swerved to the inside in the stretch run and tired nearing the end. FELSUN. outrun early, came with good speed in the late stages. SCOUT ABOUT was not good enough. BLACK LEGION did not fancy the footing. CHERACHIN raced in spots. HARDY MISS broke tardily, hut had good speed to enter contention early, was hard ridden, but could not get to the winner. MADAM CAPET broke fast and clear, failed to keep up in the early running and was stoutlv ridden to outfinish ANNE ODETTE in the closing drive. SEE SEE was unable to better her position. Won driving; second and third the same. GAY CHARLES, reserved for the first mile, bettered his position readily to reach the leaders, raced to the front under stout urging, fenced well and held on tenaciously to withstand TORTURER approaching the finish. The latter was shuffled back nearing the eighth fence, recovered after falling back, raced up strongly at the tenth jump, then finished wearing the winner down rapidly at the close. ANNIBAL, saved off the pace for the first mile, worked his way forwardly between horses and finished gamely. GOOD CHANCE raced well throughout. BUCK LANGHORNE lost ground most of the way, made several strong challenges, but was not good enough. BAGPIPE raced strongly for a mile and one-half. NATIONAL ANTHEM was crowded back after clearing the seventh fence and failed to recover. RIOTER had a lot of speed for a mile and one half, then fell at the ninth jump. KNIGHTFORS, unable to keep up with the pacemaker early, was kept in nearest pursuit, responded readily when shaken up nearing the stretch, finished strongly and was up nearing the close. TIME OWAR displayed a lot of speed to draw clear early, saved ground all the way and held on determinedly under a hard drive. CLOSE TO was hustled haH all the way and held on well. The latter, forced to race on the inside, worked her way forward steadily, raced to the winner midway of the stretch, then tired nearing the finish. PUZZLE DANCE improved her position gamely and came through on the inside to close strongly. BUDS BELL had good speed for five-eighths, "then tired. GRAND PAGEANT closed well from a slow beginning. OFFENDER, rated back of LENAS SON, was shaken up strongly on the final turn, but was unable to stay with the winner. BLOX, rated off the early pace, closed with good speed when placed to a drive. LINAS SON was steadied in front and saved ground, but flattened out when caught. MISS SELECTION had no excuses. BOOS LETTER does not amount to much and raced disgracefully.
