Five Crete Stakes Close on May 15 Winn Confident Eligible Lists Will Include All Turf Stars of Midwest . The Lincoln Fields Jockey Club will present 30 days of racing at its beautiful south side track, beginning on May 18 and concluding on June 20 Nominations for the five stakes scheduled for decision during the meeting close on May 15, and Col. Matt J. Winn, executive ad of the course, confidently believes that these features will attract every equine star of the midwest. The ,000 added Crete Handicap, which will be run on Saturday, May 23, will be the first stake renewed at the Crete track. This six-furlong dash for three-year-olds and upward, has always attracted a good: field and the 15th running promises a stellar contest. In past years such horses as Supremus, Noreaster, Misstep, Marica, Silverette and Dolly Val, among others, have annexed top honors in the sprint. The 1941 renewal fell to Lexbrook Stables s*sedy Potranco, who recently won the Paumonok Handicap at Jamaica. On Saturday, May 30, the ,000 added Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap will have its 13th renewal at Lincoln Fields. This stake has always been one of the outstanding events at the Illinois course and is expected to again prove one of the better offerings this year. Last year the Peabody fell to Valdina Farms Viscounty, while other renewals of the mile and a sixteenth test were annexed by Mucho Gusto, Marica, Myrtlewood, Gallant Knight and Paul Bunyan. Gallant Knight is a double winner of the feature, as is Mucho Gusto. The former won the 1931 and 1932 runnings, and the latter was successful in 1936 and again in 1940. Juveniles Meet in Joliet Two-year-olds will have their opportunity at Lincoln Fields on Saturday, June 6, when the ,000 added Joliet Stakes will be decided at five furlongs. The Joliet has often been termed as the stepping-off race for champions. The 1941 running of the Joliet fell to Mrs. Albert Sabaths Alsab, who went on to top honors in the juvenile division. Other thoroughbreds who gave notice of their class in the stake, were Anita Peabody, 1927 victress; Hygro, in 1931; Mansco, in 1935; Yale o Nine, 1938, and Blue Delight, 1940 victor. The ,000 added La Salle Handicap will be the feature of the day on Saturday, June 13 and a good field is expected to go to the post in that one mile and three-sixteenths race. The La Salle is one of the newer stakes and the 1942 running will mark its fourth renewal. Previous winners of the event are Watersplash, 1937; Her Reigh, 1939; Mucho Gusto, 1940, and Shot Put in 1941. The ,000 added Lincoln Handicap will headline the card on Saturday, June 20, and should provide a fitting closing to the 1942 season at the Will County course. Three-year-olds and upward are eligible for the mile and a quarter race, and previous renewals have proven that it takes a stout thoroughbred to score in this route event. Supremus, Chance Play, Lady Broadcast, Sun Beau, Sweeping Light and Equifox have all been returned winners in the Lincoln. Another favorite of Chicago turf devotees who accounted for the stake is Shot Put.
