Wayne Wrights Statement LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 2.— Wayne Wright, laughing and nervous, admits that riding the winner of the 1942 Kentucky Derby, Shut Out, was the biggest surprise of his jockey career. "Sure it was," he said after the big race. "It was the first time I ever threw my leg over the colt. Never had ridden him in a race, breezed or galloped him." *The western-born rider is not certain Shut Out is the best racer he has ridden, commenting, "Its hard to say yet. He did everything within himself today — ran willingly all the way. I just hit him a couple of times turning in the stretch and he came on under less pressure."
