Triple for W. E. Snyder At Suffolk Downs Track Rides Chance Sord, Chalara and Maepeace in Successive Races BOSTON, Mass., May 21. Warren E. Snyder tripled, to prove the shining star of an otherwise drab day at Suffolk Downs. The youthful veteran started his string off by winning the third race on the Merry-Ho Stables Chance Sord, came back to win the fourth on D. J. Sullivans Chalara and then won his third straight race on his last mount of the afternoon, the Merry-Ho Stables Maepeace. In winning with that brown daughter of Peace Chance, he turned back the field of ,000 to ,000 platers who contested the mile and 70 yards of the Brighton Purse, the feature of the program. Three lengths away from the winner in the latter event, Mrs. R. M. Buccolas Bright Trace, the pacesetter, collected second money two and three-quarters lengths in advance of Mrs. E. W. Taylors Gino Beau. B. A. Darios Arestino finished fourth. Third choice in the wagering, Maepeace returned a 0.20 mutuel to her supporters. The victory was her third of the year and she was timed in 1:45. Bright Trace Sets Fast Early Pace Bright Trace went right to the front out of the barrier and set a smart early pace. Snyder kept Maepeace, who was last away from the gate, under pressure from the start and quickly placed her second behind the pacesetter. The latter began to tire around the bend and, turning for home, Maepeace overhauled the Trace Call mare and took command at the three-sixteenths pole. Down in front of the stand she was opening up on the Buccola mare to the three lengths she had at the wire. Behind the first two, Gino Beau attempted to go along with the pacesetter, but dropped back and had to be satisfied with third money in the final drive. Juveniles were asked to go five furlongs for the first .time this season on a New England track in the Rosindale Purse, an allowance affair, which was the secondary attraction of the card, and D. J. Sullivans Chalara proved much the best of the field she met today. The chestnut daughter of Challenger II. and Khara, who was knocked around at the head of the stretch in her last start and then came on to finish third, went to the front and won by eight lengths as she clicked off the distance in. the good Continued on Page Thirty-Five Triple for W. E. Snyder At Suffolk Downs Track Rides Chance Sord, Chalara and Maepeace in Successive Races Continued from Page One time of 1:01 over the sloppy track, without being asked to extend herself. Favored in the wagering, Chalara paid .20 to those who backed her in her third victory of the year. She was ridden by Warren- E. Snyder and her score was his second appearance in the winners circle of the afternoon. In justice, to those who finished well beaten behind her, however, it should be pointed out that Miss C. Jelms Victory Play, who was racing on the inside at the time, tried to run out at the three-eighths pole and jammed up the field. Valdina Farms Valdina Marl, well-backed daughter of Teddy, recovered to finish second, three-quarters of a length before the White Star Stables Sharp Reward, and C. C. Van Meters Rocket Gal wound up fourth. Stroube and Collins Oomph, a bay daughter of Epithet and Moony, who was overlooked in the wagering, drove to victory in the four and a -,lf furlongs of the first event, fashioned for ,000 juveniles. While the Texas-owned filly was apparently tiring at the end, she still managed to withstand fhe challenge of Mrs. Vera S. Braggs Merry Rhyme, the favorite, to win by a neck as she splashed the distance in :5546. The winner paid 1.40 for in the mutuels. Two and one-quarter lengths back of the favorite, Mrs. M. E. Whitneys Ilefetchit was third, a length and a quarter be re Mrs. W. P. Cranes Suntegra. While Merry Rhyme outbroke the field, DeLara sent Oomph up to take over going into the first turn and she was never headed. Two in Row for Sassy Mate J. Johnsons Sassy Mate, who won her last outing at Narragansett Park, made it two in a row when she accounted for the six-furlong test for ,250 to ,500 platers, which was run as the second. The five-year-old daughter of Mate, hooked up with the Merry-Ho Stables La Scala in a duel from the gate to the half-mile pole and then, after disposing of that mare, opened up -a lead around the turn, which J. A. Neruds Bit OGreen was cutting down the final furlong. The winner had a length to spare and paid .20 in the mutuels after traversing the distance in 1:14. Mrs. Weston W. Adams Red Meadow was third before W. J. Sasinis Village Belle. Those who had tickets on the winning Daily Double combination of Oomph and Sassy Mate received a 6.20 return for their . There was not much to the third race, a six-furlong affair for ,500 to ,000 platers, except the Merry-Ho Stables Chance Sord, the favoiite. The Chance Play filly went right to the front at once and stayed there to the end, as she completed the distance in 1:14. Chance Sord paid .60 as she chalked up her third victory of the year and was three and one-half lengths away, ridden by Warren E. Snyder. John J. Wards Big Stakes picked up the place award well in advance of Walter G. McCarthys Knight Call. The Mill B Stables Matchup was fourth without being a challenger at any time.
