Plan Extensive Campaign For Cerberus at Detroit Needhams Little Iron Legs Is Game and Consistent Racer DETROIT, Mich., May 21. Cerberus, Detroit-owned three-year-old gelding in the stable of Robert Needham and trained by Joe Baumbach, has put in his appearance on the Fair Grounds race track. Cerberus may not be a Man o War, Old Rosebud or an Alsab, but he has a host of followers, nevertheless, and might be properly termed as "Little Iron Legs." The dockers in the "stand, the grooms in the barns, and the little men who frequent the jockeys rooms of such tracks as Churchill Downs, Keeneland and Oaklawn Park, are all fond of Cerberus. They like "Little Iron Legs" because he is game and consistent and asks no questions as to the company he meets and what kind of a racing strip he must run over, mud or dry. Cerberus became an idol when he galloped to three easy victories on Col. Matt J. Winns Kentucky Derby track at Churchill Downs. His efforts on the South Louisville course stamped him as one oL the better three-year-olds of his class. Needham purchased Cerberus in Kentucky last year and shipped him to New Orleans for winter racing there. The stout-legged Needham representative made his first start in the Crescent City on Christmas Day and then turned in several smart performances to round out a successful season. Cerberus did not win his initial stakes 1 test. He ran a game race to be beaten one length by With Regards in the renewal of the Arkansas Derby at Hot Springs. The fact that With Regards was good enough to lead the Kentucky Derby field to the final furlong boosted the Needham racers stock considerably. Trainer Joe Baumbach plans an extensive campaign here for his charge, and the Needham silks will be carried to. the post quite often by "Little Iron Legs." Although Cerberus is eligible to several eastern stakes he will probably remain right here in Detroit throughout the 73-day 1942 meeting.
