Sixty-Eight Named for Dwyer Stakes Alsab, Shut Out Among Nominees 5,000 Aqueduct Fixture Draws Leading Contenders For Three-Year-Old Title v NEW YORK, N. Y., May 21 Mrs. Albert Sabaths Alsab, who showed a return to his best form when he captured the Preak-ness, and Greentree Stables Shut Out, hero of the Kentucky Derby, top the list of 68 nominations for the 5,000 Dwyer, one of the outstanding stake events in the land for three-year-olds, scheduled for decision at Aqueduct on Saturday, June 20. Besides these ace claimants to the championship of their division, the Dwyer, which is at a mile and a quarter, has lured all. of the other leading contenders in training. With such an imposing list of eligibles nominated, the outcome of the Dwyer will, of course, have an important bearing on the three-year-old situation. The Dwyer will hold additional interest as well, by reason of the fact it carries a greater monetary value than formerly. The endowment this year represents an increase of 5,000 over last year and thus the Dwyer becomes one of the most coveted three-year-old prizes in America. The history of the stake is replete with color and famous battles, the most memorable being that which saw Man o War in his greatest victory over John P. Grier in the 1 1920 running. Second Richest Prize of Meeting ; The Dwyer is the second richest of the nine flat stakes to be renewed at Aqueducts 18-day summer meeting, June 8 to June 27, being topped only by the Brooklyn Handicap, which has been increased from 5,000 to 0,000.
