Torchilla Takes Palmars Place at Elmore Nursery South American Stallion Returns To Racing After Serving in Stud BRAWLEY, Calif., May 21 The South American Palmar, after having had his fling at stud, has been returned to training and this season the 18-year-old stallion, Torchilla, has taken over as equine master at the ranch of J. J. Elmore and will cover all 13 mares owned by the Imperial Valley breeder. Torchilla, who made last season at the Louis B. Mayer ranch and was later purchased by Elmore, is the sire of King Torch, sensation of last summers Hollywood Park meeting. He is by Torchbearer Chilla, by Alvescot. - Among the mares that will be served by the veteran this season are Prisa, by Sun-spero; Southern Charm, by Sunspero, out of The Mohawk ILL; Justwar, by Justice F.; Helpful, by American Flag; Sweepeasy, by Sweep; Adorable Cargo, by Supercargo, and House Girl, by Sweep Juliette n., by Marco. House Girl, Southern Charm and Prisa were purchased from Hamilton H. Cotton a few seasons ago. Four foals by Palmar, well-bred son of Copetin Pizpa, by Tanner, have appeared this season. The other mares mentioned are in foal to him. He has filly foals out of Prisa, Helpful and Southern Charm. Elmore also owns a ranch near the mountain town of Julian in San Diego County: It is within 60 miles of the main ranch, but the summer temperature differs as much as 20 degrees. It is to the Julian place that all the stock will be moved next month to escape the heat of the valley. Elmore, who has recently been successful I with the horses racing at Caliente in charge of Jack Taylor, plans to purchase a j 1 few more mares and they, too, will be served by Torchilla. I
