Demonstrate Supplanted In Stud Bam by Rip Rap Jay Vee Ranchs Display Stallion Sold to U. S. Remount Service NEWHALL, Calif., May 21. Now that the Display stallion Demonstrate has been sold to the U. S. Remount Service the eighteen-year-old sire, Rip Rap, one of three sons of Broomstick at stud in California, will serve the majority of the mares at J. W. McClatchies Jay Vee Ranch this season. Demonstrate covered most of the mares last year. Demonstrated potency last season is evidenced by the fact that he has seven foals on the ranch at present, with two more due, while Rip Rap has but one offspring in the pastures. The mares having foals at their side by Demonstrate are. Scarlet Star, by Star Master Scarlet Oaks, by Dick Welles colt ; Edith Gray, by Rapid Water Sister Eblem, by Ballot colt; Opal Kripp, by Orlin Kripp colt; Thanks, by Wise Counsellor Bewitching Eyes, by Whisk-away colt ; Fanny De Courcy, by Stockwell Fontarabia, by Oddfellow colt; and fillies out of the mares Lady Knave and Lollipop. The lone get of Rip Rap is a colt , out of the Havana Boy mare, Miss Lucrece. Other foals by Demonstrate to come will be out of the Cudgel mare Totera and the mare Mary L. The War Time mare War Chaff, owned by C. Price, will have a foal by Rip Rap. All mares, with the exception of Miss Lucrece and Fanny De Courcy, will go back to Rip Rap. Fanny De Courcy has been bred to Kenty and Miss Lucrece will be mated with Vain Bachelor. The pet of the ranch is a colt by Demonstrate, out of Nacomee. The youngster was one of the first foals of the season and his , dam, a twenty-year-old daughter of The ; Manager, died when he was but a few weeks old. The orphan roams the pad-. docks and stables, visiting horses and hu-. mans alike. He acts more like a friendly house dog than a thoroughbred.
