Michigan News and Notes DETROIT, Mich., May 23. Dan Hickey has been signed as agent for the James C. Ellis stable, which is conditioned by Olin Johnson. Hickey also will make the engagements here" for apprentice Elvie Hust, who was the leading rider at the recent Churchill Downs meeting. Euall Wyatt checked in from Churchill Downs with his 11 - horse contingent which is headed by the good two-year-old Smokm Ott and the four-year-old Swain. Jockey Johnny Adams, contract rider for the unit, is not expected here for 10 days, due to the recent death of Mrs. Adams. James F. Gallagher, West Coast racing official, was on hand for the inaugural day sport at the Fair Grounds. Gallagher will move over to Cleveland next week to be on hand for the Thistle Down meeting. Mrs. Gallagher accompanied her husband here. William Johnson, widely known conditioner, has taken over the training of eight horses, all the property of George and Joseph Cohen, Detroit sportsmen. The contingent is headed by the useful performer, Bold and Bad. Will Crisp announced that he would make the riding engagements here for jockey Euclid LeBlanc. The Louisiana rider has given first call on his services to L. H. Silver, who is training a public stable here. Don Depew and Don Shapero will handle the dual photo-finish equipment at the Detroit Fair Grounds during the 1942 73-day season. i M. M. Johr is training his own stable of 12 horses his season and announced that he may take up several more thoroughbreds before the Motor City meeting reaches the half way mark. i 1 E. B. Tucker registered 13 thoroughbreds with secretary Henry after his contingent arrived from the West. Jockey H. Lasswell accompanied the shipment and will do the riding during the Detroit session for Tucker. Apprentice Sammy Parise, who is Under contract to Kenneth Murchisons Bluebird Stock Farm stable, will lose his five pounds allowance after he pilots five more winners. I Robert Noel will make the outside riding engagements here for jockey A. Snider, who has given first call on his services to the Wexler and Shagrin stable. W. E. Ball, Nebraska turfman, checked in from Hot Springs with his 10 -horse contingent. Ball always has been a regular on the Michigan-Ohio circuit. Rhody Hanrahan, secretary of the Michigan Racing Commission, is busily engaged issuing licenses to horsemen and jockeys. Joe - Inzelone, former riding star, now with Earl H. Beezley, suffered a badly cut eye when a horse struck him. Col. Edward Shields is an arrival from Louisville and reported for duty as information man in the mutuel department. Ivan Parke has completely recovered from his recent illness and has taken active charge of his 15-horse public stable.
