I ! . Dover Will Engage Classy Youngsters Largest Field in History of Delaware Event Expected to Help Inaugurate Meeting STANTON, Del., May 23. All indications point to the largest field in its short history, being under colors for the Dover Stakes, a dash of five furlongs that will top the opening-day program of the Delaware Steeplechase and Racing Association on Friday, May 29. Of the 117 two-year-olds eligible to the stakes which was won last year by Mrs. R. D. Pattersons Ben Shaba, 50 per cent of them are expected" to be quartered at Delaware Park before the 30-day session commences. It is expected to be a wide open contest, for, except Teentee, winner of the Pimlico Nursery, and Hygrohour, who accounted for the Bowie Kindergarten, no other leading juvenile of Maryland spring racing is eligible. Louis Lee Haggin, H.s Menex, who succumbed to Teentee in the closing stride of the live-furlong Nursery, also is missing from the list of candidates, but Charles Whitney Moores Letter V, who gave signs of being a two-year-old of the first water in his first essay at, Keene-land, is on the scene of the battle and Duval Headley informed friends he would ship John Hay Whitneys Picket from New York for the fray. Picket was a surprise winner at Belmont Park several days ago and the. son of Jacopo and Gallant Lady, a daughter of Sir Gallahad m., impressed his connections with the manner in which he. beat a fine field. Jerry Louchheim sent Kopla to Suffolk Downs after he won the Ral Parr, Stakes and True North is being reserved for late summer competition, so the Dover field will include two-year-olds who have yet to enter racing. Juvenile Fixture for Both Sexes The Dover is the first of three stakes for juveniles, the Polly Drummond, is exclusively for fillies and the Christiana is for two-year-bid colts and geldings; thus, the Dover is the only one fashioned for both sexes. El Chico, destined to be the leading twp"-year-old of his year, won the inaugural w running in 1938 and Camp Verde was successful in 1939. Blensign, who has yet to run back to his juvenile form, defeated Misty Isle and others the following year and Joe Ray and Alohort were second. and third to Ben Shaba last year. Topping Saturday and the second days sport will be the Wilmington Handicap, a six-furlong dash that attracted 44 nominations. Madigama carried Donald P.
