Pea body Memorial Next Crete Fixture Heads Saturdays Holiday Program Royal Crusader, Technician, Equifoxand Heartman Likely Candidates for ,000 Tilt CRETE, 111., May 23. If the principal nominees for the race get to the post, Lincoln Fields fans can expect to see a splendid renewal of the Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap here next Saturday. This stake is a run of a mile and a sixteenth for three-year-olds and upward, and twenty-two horses have been made eligible for it. Prominent among the candidates are the R C Stables Royal Crusader, Herbert M. Woolfs Technician, Howard Wells Equi-fbx and Jake Lowensteins Heartman, all of whom have solid support for next Saturdays ,000 holiday feature. All are recent winners, Technician and Heartman already having won at this meeting-Technician, who hadnt ben able to "win a race in a year, showed a return to his best form Friday when he defeated a representative field in the Del Prado Hotel Purse, a sprint of seven furlongs. He led all the way and, with that conditioner under his girth, his connections believe he will be a sharp factor in Saturdays test of a mile and a sixteenth. The Woolford Farm establishment is further fortified for the Peabody Memorial with Signator, who may accompany Technician to the post this week-end. Heartman gave Lincoln Fields fans a line on his present fitness earlier in the week when he won the Jackson Park Purse, also decided at seven furlongs. His victory was just as impressive as was Technicians, and Lowenstein has every right to be optimistic over the, horses chances of victory in his first stakes engagement of the year. Won at Churchill Downs Royal Crusader and Equifox achieved their first 1942 victories at Churchill Downs before coming to Lincoln Fields. Royal Crusader distinguished himself by capturing the Churchill Downs Handicap, while Equifox accomplished his success in an overnight feature. That Equifox is holding his excellent form was seen this morning when he worked a handy mile in 1:42. Others who are being pointed for the Peabody Memorial are- Molter and Williams South American runner, Valeroso H., John Marschs Bulldinger, W. A. Osbornes Step By, C. 17. Yaegers Pumpgun, Mrs. L. B. Muschals Cherry Trifle, Endovina and Terrys Vinum, E. C. A. Bergers Kantar Run, the Arcturus Stables Pink Gal, and Morris Vehons Stinging Bee. The Peabody Memorial is the first of three distance stakes on Lincoln Fields spring program. The next is the LaSalle Handicap, to be .decided at a mile and three-sixteenths on June 13, and the third is the Lincoln Handicap, set for a mile and a quarter on the last day of the meeting, June 20. The one other added money feature remaining to be run here is the Joliet Stakes, a five-furlong dash for two-year-olds to be presented on June 6. A mid-week feature at Lincoln Fields is the Lincolnshire Country Club Handicap on Wednesday, which will serve as a tune-up for Peabody candidates. The race will be contested at seven furlongs and will serve ideally as a prep for many horses being pointed for the richer event a few days later. Another feature of next weeks racing is the Hammond Claiming Handicap, at a mile and a sixteenth, which will appeal to the owners of horses just a cut under the top notchers. This event will be run Thursday.
