i Pause Returned Winner Of Sprint at Detroit Oval Wexler Mare Drives Home Ahead Of Just Tourist and Must Go DETROIT, Mich., May 27 Pause, a six-year-old daughter of the late Wise Counsellor and Directly, representative of M. Wexler, Cleveland sportsman, raced to a driving victory in the first jrace at the Detroit Fair Grounds today. Well ridden by Euclid LeBlanc, Pause came to the end of the one mile and a sixteenth journey a length and a half before Peterson and Childs Just Tourist, and the latter enjoyed a like advantage over Mrs. E. Clouds Must Go at the wire, Pauses third victory bf the year was popular with the large crowd, for she went to the post choice over her nine rivals. The Wexler mare returned .40 stratight and made the trip in 1:46. Little time was lost at the post, and starter Bryan Steele sent the field away in perfect alignment. Melody Tone had the highest speed away from the gate, while Must Go and Sun Mica followed in closest pursuit. Pause was no better than sixth in the run to the first turn. Sun Mica and Melody Tone raced closely lapped during the first quarter mile, as-Scrooge occupied third position well in advance of the ultimate winner. Scrooge took command near the half-mile ground when Sun Mica weakened and Pause continued steadily in fourth place. After leaving the back stretch, LeBlanc called upon Pause, which quickly assumed the lead. Scrooge raced second but soon gave way as Melody Tone moved up to offer the stoutest opposition. The Wexler racer raced gamely, however, and, after shaking off Melody Tone, withstood a brisk drive to hold Just Tourist safe. Must Go held on determinedly to annex the minor portion of the purse. Mrs. J. B. Burnstein kept up her winning record of a purse each day during the current meeting when Baltee raced to a length and a half decision in the second ,race of six furlongs. Mrs. H. D. Walkers favored Red Moss accounted for the place by a two and a half lengths margin before J. C. Ellis Stuart B.f who downed the seven other starters for third. Baltee went the distince in 1:12 and paid .20 in the straight "tote" pool, and completed the Daily Double with Pause, victor in the first, for a 6.20 return. Baltee was handled by G. Olivera.
