. r-4 Ben Lister Races Homebred Stable New Englander Has Nine Brood Mares in Kentucky To Replenish His String LEXINGTON, Ky., May 27. Ben F. Lister, who breeds many of the racers who carry his colors, now has nine brood mares here. A choice collection of bloodstock, they are kept at the Elmwood Farm of Rhodes Estill. Centredale, Bell Tower and other top members of Listers powerful stable, were bred and raised here. Although he owns a farm in Rhode Island, Lister makes this the center of his operations, believing that Kentucky is the best place for the breeding and raising of thoroughbreds. Lister has had unusual success with the home-breds he has raised here. The New England sportsman has but one sire, Clock Tower. Best of the get of the black stallion to date, is Dawn Play, one of the star three-year-olds of her year. Lister plans to give his Bull Brier, a stake winner, by Bull Dog, an opportunity at stud after his racing days are over. Best known of Listers mares is Araho Lass, a stake-winning daughter of Teddy. He has another highly rated matron in Branch Water, also a Teddy mare and a half ster of the stake winners, Stage Beauty and Conservative. Momo, winner of 12 races, is a full sister of the stake winners,Howard and Depression, and is a half sister of the stake winner, Alyssum. Strenuous, dam of Bell Tower, is a half sister of the stake winner and sire, Identify.
