SHORT CAKE followed along within striking distance of the pace for the first three-eighths, moved up on the outside when called upon, wore down SCHUYLERVILLE for the lead and drew clear in the stretch, but had to be hard ridden to withstand the fast closing BALLAST REEF. The latter, unable to reach the leaders early, .swung to the outside in the stretch and, closing fast, was wearing down the winner steadily at the end. BELMAR ARRA went forwardly placed throughout. EIGHT AND SIX moved up gradually in the last five-sixteenths and held on gamely in the drive. SCHUYLERVILLE showed good speed, raced BLUE LEONA into submission and faltered in the stretch. NIGHT TIDE was unable to engage the leaders. WELL READ was shuffled back in the opening strides and had to be taken up. ALAFLAG, off the. pace-in the first three-eighths, began moving up after leaving the back stretch, wore down BAY ACRE for command and drew out in the last eighth. BATIK, slow to begin and outrun early, was roused repeatedly in the run through the back stretch, began moving up in the last t,hree-eighths and closed willingly in the stretch. MACKS MISS, avoiding the early pace, found clear sailing on the inside, then moved up determinedly when reaching the stretch, but was unable to make up any ground in the last quarter. BAY ACRE showed good speed, went into a clear lead midway through the back stretch and faltered under hard urging in the last three-sixteenths. VAIN showed good speed, then tired after going three-quarters. VALDINA CAPER tired in the last half mile. BOILED BRISKET was unable to keep up. RESULTS worked his way to the front after leaving the back stretch, wore down RAPID RIVER for the lead before reaching the stretch and, opening up a good lead, was never threatened in the stretch. VALDINA SOL, slow to settle into his best stride, was placed under punishment when leaving the back stretch, then worked his way. up steadily and held on with splendid energy in the closing drive. RAPID RIVER showed speed from the start, shook off SKY BOUND for the lead and drew clear, but was unable to go along with the winner when challenged," although holding on stubbornly to the end. SKY BOUND, quick to begin, showed early speed, but was unable to keep pace. FALSE FACE failed to threaten. NOSLEN was unable to keep up. Scratched 22795 Sarge, 118. FOURTH RACE 5-8 MILE. THROUGH BOUND went into command at once, soon opened up a comfortable lead and, rated along under slight restraint, was never threatened, winning with speed to spare. VALDINA MARL, hard ridden to keep pace early, closed willingly, but was unable to threaten the winner. BOLD DAN moved up under pressure after rounding the far turn and held on willingly in the final drive. ZACABRAND went at an even pace throughout. SUPREMES BEST, under occasional punishment while in nearest pursuit of the pace in the first three-eighths, tired in the last three-sixteenths. HY RICKEY was outrun. POLO PLAYER trailed. PACIFICATION, steadied along while holding to a position on the outside, wore down FIRST SON in the last eighth to draw out steadily. FIRST SON moved up on the inside when leaving the back stretch, came to the outside of tha pacemaker when nearing the stretch and gained a short lead, but was unable to cope with the bid of the winner and barely lasted to hold MIXER safe. MIXER closed willingly through the stretch. BRENNER PASS was unable to engage the leaders. BULRUSH forced the early pace and tired. RODIN, rated back of the pace until the last half, began working his way to the leaders steadily while on the outside, responded gamely to brisk pressure when reaching the stretch and, wearing down the leaders, increased his lead in the closing strides. LOVEDAY trailed her company until reaching the stretch, closed with a rush and outlasted WISE FATHER, The latter showed speed in disputing the pace with BULWARK and fought it out courageously to the end. BULWARK, hustled to the front, withstood repeated challenges from WISE FATHER, but tired slightly in the last eighth. MASTER KEY, well placed, moved up on the inside nearing the far turn, was unable to get through and tired during the stretch run. Overweight Master Key, 1 pound. SEVENTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. ESELKAY, far back early and , outrun until leaving the back stretch, worked his way up gradually on the outside and, responding gamely to hard riding through the stretch, was along in the last thirty yards. REBBINA, prominent from the start, disputed the lead with -GRAN COSA, disposed of her and, fighting it out stubbornly, was unable to withstand the closing bid of the winner. RANCHOS BOY moved up on the inside through the back stretch, came between horses in the stretch, bore in in the last sixteenth and finished willingly? MAX FORST raced forwardly throughout, but was unable to keep pace in the closing drive. Howell lodged a claim of foul, but it was not allowed. BROAD TAIL worked his way up gradually and saved ground entering the stretch, but was unable to keep pace in the drive. NOODLES was unable to reach the leaders. GRAN COSA tired. The latter worked her way up steadily, saved ground into-the stretch and held on willingly in the final drive. CUCKOO drew away into a commanding early lead, then faltered in the last five-sixteenths. SICKLEBILL closed some ground after trailing far back early. INVINCIBLE, much used chasing the early pace, tired. DRUCO SYSKA, prominent early, qAt. Scratched 23738 Aluminio, 113. Overweight Top Queen, 1 pound.
