On Aqueduct Strip Hirsch Gives Eye for Eye Long Prep for Saturdays 5,000 Route Fixture AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 16.— Training operations at three Long Island tracks this morning engaged some potential Dwyer starters. This event, Aqueducts three-year-old salient feature, will be contested on Saturday over the mile and a quarter ground. The stake is endowed with a purse of 5,000 and barring Count Fleet, winner of the "Triple Crown," the majority of the better known three-year-olds in this sector are expected to parade postward. Trainer James Fitzsimmons, the venerable sage of Sheepshead Bay, who maintains his training headquarters at this track, called on Tip-Toe, one of the Belair Stud colorbear-ers, for his final test for the engagement. Tip-Toe breezed over the mile distance in handy fashion and was timed in 1:40 for the route. The son of Foray II. and Dancing Dora negotiated the route with speed in reserve and at no stage was called upon for his best efforts. Fitzsimmons surprised work watchers when he sent the brown-coated Apache over the seven-furlong route in 1 :27. This four-year-old, an absentee from the overnight entries for some time, is rounding to his top form, but little hope is held out that he will parade postward in the Brooklyn Handicap, the climax feature of this meeting. Apache was steadied along and at no stage was he pressed. Trainer Fitzsimmons was immensely pleased with the test- and predicted that the Belair Stud representative would be a factor in his engagements later in the summer. Increase in Training Operations Training operations at the vast Nassau County course, Belmont Park, showed an increase over recent days. Trainers called upon the majority of their charges and sent them over the main strip or upon the training track. The coughing epidemic that laid the bulk of the two-year-olds on the sidelines is past and many of the younger generation were called upon for sharpening-up tests. Trainer Max Hirsch stepped the King Ranch stables Eye for Eye, a Dwyer eligible, over the mile and a furlong distance. This fellow was timed in 1 :52% on the main track. The Chicaro — Eye to Eye colt was accompanied by Too Timely, also a Dwyer hopeful, in the early stages, the first seven furlongs. Trainer Hirsch was pleased with the test of his charge. Owner Kleberg, accompanied by his family, was among the work watchers, and he not only witnessed the Dwyer candidates trials, but other horses in the entourage. The party were guests of Max Hirsch for a kitchen breakfast. Attention and Salto, the William Helis representatives, were called upon for their meeting trials. Attention is a nominee for the Brooklyn Handicap, to be contested the final day of the meeting. Attention was given an easy five-furlong test, which he accomplished in 1:02. Devil Diver and The Rhymer, from the Greentree Farm stable, both eligibles for the Brooklyn, were also tested during the morning. The Rhymer was sent over the mile and a furlong distance in 1:52, a stint that he accomplished with ease. Devil Diver, hero of the recent Carter Handicap, was breezed one mile. He loafed over the distance in 1:42 and had speed in reserve. For the week-end, in addition to the Dwyer, the Tremont, for two-year-old colts and geldings, will be contested. This event is expected to attract a field of the better regarded juveniles of the present session. The Tremont dates back to 1887 and when the entries for this running were tabulated after the closing day, May 15, a total of 65 youngsters became eligible. TIP-TOE — Beloirs shifty three-year-old continues to train in pleasing style at Aqueduct.
