Garden State Plans to Employ Women in Mutuel Department CAMDEN, N. J.. June 16.— Horse players will get a flash of a sweet feminine smile through the window when they walk up to buy their mutuels tickets at Garden State Park this year. At least 50 women will be employed as mutuels clerks, sellers and cashiers during the 50-day meeting opening here on July 7, general manager Walter H. Donovan announced today. They will fill in the gaps left by the wars drain on mutuels manpower, which has become so serious in this section that for the first time on eastern race tracks the girls will be given a chance to demonstrate their money -handling skill in a field that was previously the sole province of males.
