, . Gondalina Sprints To Suffolk Victory Leads Quakertown Home by Three Lengths and Covers Six Furlongs in "1:11 Vi BOSTON, Mass., June 16.— Displaying one of her best sprint efforts in some time, Gondalina, from the string of G. R. Wat-kins, turned back the best field of the afternoon at Suffolk Downs. This was in the fifth race, a six furlong dash for platers in the ,500-,000 claiming group. The five-year-old daughter of Challenger DT. scored in convincing fashion by the matter of three lengths over Walker Gullatts Quakertown. Battle Jack, from the C. L. Hammond string, took show honors with Time OWar leading home the only other starter, Selmalad. Time for the dash was 1:11 Vs. Time OWar moved to the lead in the opening strides after having been led out of the stalls by Battle Jack. The Dress Parade six-year-old opened up daylight on the Hammond oldster in the run through the back stretch. Claggett was reserving Gondalina back in third place, showing just before Quakertown. Time OWar continued to lead for the first half mile. Battle Jack pressed the leader closest but Gondalina was right there on the outside and under reserve. Draws Out Steadily Into the stretch Gondalina quickly bounded to the front, drawing out steadily during the final three-sixteenths mile. Quakertown had also been called upon for his best, came through on the inside entering the stretch afid, while closing courageously enough to take the place, was unable to get within striking distance of the Challenger II. mare. Battle Jack had been placed under pressure in forcing the early pace and fell ready prey to the bids of the first two in the closing test. Time OWar, although weakening, managed to finish fourth a half length in advance of Selmalad. The latter played no part in the running, trailing from start to finish. While each of the eight offerings on the card were arranged under claiming conditions, spirited sport resulted and a crowd of 10,526 was on hand.
