Annual Ak-Sar-Ben Meet Begins at Omaha Today Capacity Field of Twelve Named For Featured Handicap Offering AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Neb., May 27.— Racing secretary Richard A. Leigh has arranged an excellent program for the opening of the 30-day meeting here at Ak-Sar-Ben tomorrow. Horses of the best quality ever seen at the West Center Street course are in abundance, with all the stall space filled to capacity. Without a doubt, when the bugle announces the first race tomorrow, the curtain will be raised on the most successful season in the history of the organization. Occupying the feature spot on tomorrows card, is the Ak-Sar-Ben Inaugural Handicap. Scheduled at a distance of five and one-half furlongs with a purse of ,500, a capacity field of 12 has been entered. Assigned high weight of 121 pounds by secretary Leigh, is Willard T. Beezleys crack performer Gallant Hour. Having shown his class and speed during engagements throughout the winter and spring, the Morvich gelding should carry his heavy impost with composure. Gallant Hour last spring here defeated the best on the grounds in two six-furlong handicaps, while finishing out of the money on only one occasion. The son of Morvich has arrived here after a successful campaign at Chicago. Jodas Joe, running under the colors of W. D. Rorick and L. O. Stubbs speedy Blue Fawn is next in line with 110. E. G. Rossalls Skipem and G. W. Renf roes Miss Real share equal weights of 108 pounds, while the remainder of the field scales down to the lightweight of 103 pounds which is to be carried by Julies Pal. The supporting feature brings together 12 starters in the fifth offering, a claiming event to be decided over six furlongs for a purse of ,100. Entered to be claimed for ,500 down to ,250, many well known former Ak-Sar-Ben campaigners will vie. Bert W., Jug Head, Chance Tea, Chicona, and Orlando Girl are some of the contestants sure to be backed by the public. R. Wagners Chance Tea was the victor in last springs Inaugural Handicap and with the same class displayed tomorrow, his task should not prove too difficult. The eight-race card will have first post time of 2 p. m. with the Daily Double being on the first and second races. The weatherman appears to be smiling upon Omaha and sunny skies are expected to prevail. Ak-Sar-Ben general manager J. J. Isaacson pointed out that with the beginning of tomorrows 30-day meeting, no children under 18 years of age will be permitted on the grounds. The board of directors decided that the only sure method of keeping youngsters from congesting the passageways and out of the betting enclosures was to forbid them entrance to the track.
