Five Slated to Oppose The Dude Today In Jackson Boulevard Purse at Cicero Cid Play and Pomps Gal * Gaal Colts Formidable Foes in Lincoln Feature HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., May 27.— Mrs. Al Gaals The Dude, a sharp running little colt who was raced into tip-top condition during the Sportsmans Park session, makes his first start of the Lincoln Fields meeting here tomorrow when he opposes five other sophomore mares in the Jackson Boulevard Purse, a ,500 overnighter that is carded at a mile and 70 yards. After the colt won six of his 11 starts as a juvenile, Mr. and Mrs. Al Gaal, his trainer and owner, respectively, gave him a well-earned rest during the winter, then nominated him for the Kentucky Derby. The well-conformed thoroughbred failed to advance quickly after he was returned to the training track and Gaal was unable to have him ready for the Churchill Downs classic, but he did have him fit enough to compete in a pair of races at the Sportsmans half-miler. He finished third in his first start, then gave a splendid performance to take the place money in the other. It will be his first try over a distance of ground and his work will be cut out for him, for opposing him are Ben Fogelsons Pomps Gal, Mrs. C. J. Martin Jr.s Aerial Gunner, J. M. Hutchins Lord Caprice, Mrs. A. M. Creechs Cid Play and Mrs. Thomas M. Pruetts Port Mars. Third in First Start of Meeting Cid Play earned a great number of admirers in his lone start of the meeting when he finished third to Mighty Story and Seamans Pal, after trailing his field the best part of the distance, then turning loose with a terrific rush near the finish that carried him to within one and three-quarter lengths back of the classy Marsch colt. In his lone start in Kentucky he failed to show much against Spy Song, but prior to that he forced Bob Murphy to the limit to beat him by a short margin in the 0,000 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park. The gelding appears to be at his best at a distance and it may be that he will face the starter one of the more heavily backed thoroughbreds in the race. Pomps Gal gained some experience at middle distance racing during the Florida season and in her only start of the meeting here she showed a game effort to score at three-quarters of a mile. She is possessed of a world of early speed and appears the most probable horse in the race to set the early pace. Whether she is capable of maintaining her speed in the stretch when The Dude and Cid Play make their bids, is a question that will likely be bandied about with some enthusiasm among the form players. Port Mars, who gave a fine effort while beating a field of ,000 platers last week, is moving up several notches in this field, but he has been showing steady improvement and may share in part of the purse. Lord Caprice was in the same heat and failed to show much speed, although favored in the wagering. Aerial Gunner probably will be the extreme outsider in the six-horse field.
