Y., May 27. — Murlogg Forms versatile Fighting Step, one of the outstanding contenders for Thursdays renewal of the 0,000 Suburban Handicap, at Belmont Park, electrified dockers at Jamaica Sunday morning when he stepped the full mile and a quarter of the holiday stake in 2:05 handily. The courageous son of Fighting Fox, who was voted the best three-year-old colt of 1945 in Racing Forms annual poll, and who scored a convincing victory in the Pau-manok Handicap on opening day at Jamaica, was clocked the first half in :48%. three-quarters in 1:14%, mile in 1:40, and one mile and a furlong in 1:52. He completed the final quarter in a highly creditable :25. George South, who will ride Fighting Step at 118 pounds in the Memorial Day fixture, was in the saddle. Clockers termed it "a big work." Calumet Farms Armed, who looms a strong Suburban favorite, despite his top impost of 130 pounds, worked half a mile in :48l5, over the main track at Belmont Park Sunday morning. He was hard held and watch-holders report him at the peak of his form. First Fiddle Goes Mile and Eighth Mrs. Edward Mulrenans hardy First Fiddle, seven-year-old son of First Minstrel, breezed one mile and a furlong in 1:56 during the same training periods. His fractions were :521/5, 1:11 and 1:43%. "The Fiddle" will pack a burden of 122 pounds in the Suburban, being rated behind Armed and Stymie in John B. Campbells weights for the rich stake. Trymenow, who is scheduled to carry 112 pounds in the Suburban, breezed one mile and a quarter in 2:10%. He virtually "walked" the first three-quarters, being timed in :532/5 and 1:19 Vs. Asked to run in the final stages of his preliminary, he whirled the mile in 1:45 and one mile and a furlong in 1:57%. William Vsiegler Jr.s Bounding Home and Col. E. R. Bradleys Burning Dream were among the lightly regarded candidates for the Suburban who worked. Bounding Home, surprise winner of the Belmont Stakes in 1944, went one mile and a quarter in 206% handily Sunday morning, while Burning Dream breezed five furlongs in 1:04 over the sloppy strip yesterday.
