Rao! Eastern Shore Winner as Havre Closes HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., May 27.— Gaining the lead just within the furlong pole, S. W. Labrot Jr.s Raol charged to a popular victory in the thirty-fourth running of the Eastern Shore Handicap here today as the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Association rang down the curtain on its second spring meeting before a get-away throng of approximately 10,000. Generally considered the lesser member of the two-horse Labrot entry, Raol, under a well-judged ride by Al Snider, reached the finish of the five furlongs a length and one-half clear of Walter A. Edgars Penny Reward, who was four lengths before Paradise Farms Big Demand, erstwhile pacemaker. Manchac, stablemate of the winner, was fourth after it appeared that he endeavored to pull himself up soon after the start. Coral Star, Bullow and Regained ran as named to complete the field. With only four interests represented in the two-year-old special, there was straight and place wagering only, with the Raol-Manchac tandem paying .70 to win. Most of the support was accorded Manchac, who had beaten his stablemate rather handily in a previous race. Heavy showers during the forenoon left the track deep in mud, and Raol, carrying 118 pounds, required 1:00% to complete the five-panel spin.
