Castel Beau, Sweep Play Topweighted for Tonty Five Other Fast Sprinters Go In Todays Feature at Detroit FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 27. — The Tonty Purse, a six-furlong sprint for three-year olds, headlines an attractive program arranged for presentation tomorrow at the Motor City racing grounds. Seven of the better performers from the age division are entered for the dash, which shapes up as an unusually good offering. The Tonty is spotted sixth on the card and, under the conditions, S. I. Crews Castel Beau will shoulder top weight of 118 pounds along with Earl H. Beezleys Sweep Play, who drew a like impost. Castel Beau raced smartly during the Kentucky spring season and Sweep Play was recently purchased by Beezley from Warren Wrights Calumet Farm. Just Flip, another well-conformed three-year-old, is to race coupled with Sweep Play in the Beezley entry and the Nebraska turfman acquired the miss at private sale from Thomas Piatt and Thomas Carr Piatt, widely-known Kentucky thoroughbred breeders. Just Flip gets in the Tonty under a feathery 108 pounds. Mrs. George Whites silks are to be carried in the headliner by Bright Steel, who whipped a good field during the final week of the Churchill Downs meeting and paid one of the longest prices at the Derby oval this year. Bright Steel will contest under 116 pounds and he is to have the saddle services of Rod Hartwick. Rounding out the probable starting band for the Tonty are Clifford Lusskys useful Spirsilla, Mrs. E. Ferris Dicks Gal, and Anthony Graffagninis Crazy Whirl. Spirsilla raced impressively during a New Orleans winter campaign, Dicks Gal looked good in several Kentucky starts and Crazy Whirls recent trials suggest that she will be dangerous. Seven two-year-olds are to meet in the Youngsters Purse, five furlongs third race. Mrs. B. Hernandez Silvers Pride is expected to go postward as the choice over such company as Photo Light, Heliotrope and Sea Pigeon. Completing the field for the dash are Sea Trail, Michael J., and Oh Felicia.
