More Than 120 Yearlings Listed For Summer Sales in California [ Leading Breeders in State Consignees to Santa Anita Auction on July 15, 76, 17 LOS ANGELES, Calif., June 11. — The largest and finest lot of thoroughbred yearlings ever offered at a sale in the West will be sold at the California Thoroughbred Breeders Associations annual summer sale at the Santa Anita Club House, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15. 16 and 17, commencing at 7 p. m. Among the more than 120 yearlings consigned to this summers sale are the get of such noted sires as Beau Pere, Alibhai, Sea-biscuit. Bargello, Soon Over, By-Pass U., Mioland, Lassator, Boxthorn, Trace Call, Hollyrood, Firozepore, Castel Fusano and many others. The mares whose get are rep-sented in the sale are an outstanding lot, too, for many of them were good winners and stakes winners and have also produced many winners and stakes winners. Unlike in past years, the 1946 summer sales will be confined to yearlings only, with the breeders association planning to hold another sale in the fall at which breeding stock, horses in training, and miscellaneous stock will be offered. More than 46 California thoroughbred breeders have consigned yearlings to the sales this year, and competent horsemen who have inspected the 1946 sales prospects say that they are undoubtedly the best lot ever offered for sale in California. Offer Two Beau Pere Fillies Among the more interesting consignments in the 1946 sale is that of Dr. F. Porter Miller of Riverside, for among the five Miller yearlings are two fillies by Beau Pere, who finished in a tie with Bull Lea as Americas leading sire of two-year-old winners in 1945, and a colt by the outstanding young sire Alibhai. This will mark the first time the get of either Beau Pere or Alibhai have been offered at public sale, so the Miller yearlings should be eagerly sought. Charles S. Howard of Ridgewood Ranch, Willits, has consigned eight fine yearlings. Among them are three by his great stakes winner Seabiscuit and two by the outstanding young sire prospect, Mioland. Carleton F. Burke, of Greenfield Farms, Camarillo, has named four yearlings, all colts, for the sale. They include one by the Broomstick horse Cantankerous and three by Soon Over, the latter a fine son of the great Buchan and one of Californias leading sires last year when his get won more than 0,000. From the Melwood Ranch of Dr. Chester L. Wilson of San Ysidro, are coming eleven yearlings, the get of the good sire Bargello and the promising young Teddy-line stallion, Dogaway. Among the Wilson yearlings, one that is sure to attract attention is a bay colt by Bargello out of Battle Call, a winning sister to the stakes winners Roman Flag and Black Badge, who between them have won more than 30 races and earned more than 30,000. Ed Janss of Conejo Ranch, Camarillo. has named four yearlings, two by Trace Call, one by Boxthorn, and one by the young imported sire Moonlight Run. One of the Janss yearlings sure to attract much attention is a bay colt by the outstanding sire, Trace Call, and out of Ample Lady, a Sir Gallahad III, mare who is already the dam of three good winners.
