Expect Colleen Stakes To Attract Good Field 0,000 Event Will Feature Monmouth Parks First Card MONMOUTH, PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 11. — Although it is still a bit too early to speculate upon the probable field, racing secretary John P. Turner, Jr., is inclined to believe a star-studded group of two-year-old fillies will be drawn for the 0,000 Colleen Stakes, which will feature the inaugural program at Monmouth Park next Wednesday. The five and one-half furlong event, which was one of the most sought-after races when the sport flourished at old Monmouth Park almost a half -century ago, attracted a total of 105 of the best juvenile fillies in training, and from this bulky list a blue-ribbon field is almost certain to parade postwar d. While several of the more prominent nominees have as yet to reach the course, quite a few of the probable starters were already on the grounds and have received trials over the new Monmouth Park strip. One of the early favorites for the Colleen is W. H. LaBoyteaux Pipette, a New Jersey-bred daughter of Piping Rock, who won her last two starts in New York in smart fashion. Other prominent members of the division who are among the list of eligibles are C. V. Whitneys First Flight, Bobanet Stables Lovely Imp, and William Helis Miss Kimo. The June 19 opening of Monmouth Park has compelled racing secretary Turner to call off two stakes scheduled during the meeting, which were the 0,000 Oceanport Handicap and 0,000 Long Branch Handicap. All nominating fees to these two specials vere refunded. Most of the thoroughbreds eligible to the abandoned stakes also were nominated for other rich fixtures which will be run during the inaugural meeting.
