Eight Sprinters Entered In Polk Laffoon Handicap Bold Question and Roy at Top Pair in Detroit Main Event FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 25. Two handicaps, one at six furlongs and another at a mile and a sixteenth, divided chief interest in the excellent mid-week program arranged by racing secretary Charles P. Henry at the Motor City race track tomorrow. The sprint, titled the Polk Laffoon, has attracted eight better class speedsters to vie for a ,500 prize and will be offered as the fifth race. The John S. Wiggins, over the longer distance, is for a ,000 purse and has enticed a field of seven. A race over the about one mile distance on the turf course and a dash of six furlongs for three-year-olds exclusively under allowance conditions are the best offerings on the supporting card. That the field in the Laffoon is a very evenly balanced one is evident for Mrs. B. Hernandez Bold Question and Mrs. J. L. Chesneys Royat are the only two that have not won at the meeting. Topweight has been allotted to Anthony Graff agninis Rip Away, "Who is asked to carry 117 pounds. The son of Rip Rap. was unplaced in the Hendrie : Handicap last Saturday but accounted for his previous venture rather impressively. I Bold Question is next in line in the matter of weights under 115 pounds. The Hernandez ; representative had scant chance from a slow beginning in his latest trip postward but m his initial local seasonal appearance he was second. The bulk of public support might well fall to T. D. Buhls Crack Reward whose impost is 114 pounds. The son of Reaping Reward carried three pounds less to win the Ed McCuan Handicap at last asking and he again will have the value services of jockey Sterling Young. Others in the field include Play Hands, coupled with Royat, Mrs. E. McCuans Dimit, O. P. Woodwards Tuey Toy and J. L. Hollenbachs Roi Rouge. The last three named accounted for their latest races to attest present condition. In the Wiggins the field is very evenly matched with the winner likely to come from any quarter. Miss Fluff, who races for T. Atkins was a beaten favorite last trip and must be accorded a chance to make amends. Grissom and Shermans Unconditional was a creditable second last outing and could improve enough to take major honors here. J. Harts Baumbach has been closing very fast in recent races and might get up in time. Increscent and Romulus are not overmatched here.
