EXPENDABLE, forwardly placed in the first quarter, escaped crowding leaving the backstretch, came around horses on the final turn, assumed command when ARTHUR J. went wide and drew out under pressure. ARTHUR J. broke alertly, opened a clear lead, was taken under light restraint to midway of the turn, then began bearing out under steady pressure and finished in the middle of the track. VALDINA MINTEA bullied her way through when caught in close quarters leaving the half-mile pole, then held on gamely under intermittent pressure. WINECUP made up ground under stout handling. AMBRANDED was hard ridden to remain in contention, then failed to rally in the stretch. ARBOR VITA was rushed up on the inside to gain a forward position, then weakened under a drive. RIOTOUS REBEL raced evenly. CLYDE T. was never prominent. HEWINEASY had speed for a quarter, then quit. LUNCH DATE was knocked back nearing the half-mile pole and failed to recover. Won driving; second and third the same. CHARTER MEMBER remained close to the early pace under light urging, responded to stout handling entering the stretch and was up in the final seventy yards to outfinish BALMY SPRING. The latter saved ground while following close behind VAMPIRE, assumed command when the latter went wide and just failed to last. ROUGH SHOWER was unable to improve her position under a steady drive in the final furlong. VAMPIRE showed good speed in the first quarter and drew clear, then raced very wide on the final turn. NELLIE MOWLEE was hard ridden through the stretch, but failed to menace the leaders. NAUGHTY VIXEN was under a steady drive during the final quarter and had no mishap. ERIC KNIGHT was unable to keep up. MODEL LADY raced evenly. SWELL TIME showed nothing. The others were outrun. RESOLUTE II., under tight restraint for six furlongs, moved up on the outside to obtain a contending position entering the stretch, continued to gain when straightened out, was bothered slightly when YAFINOB began swerving, recovered and was drawing out at the end. YAFINOB took the lead when IDENTIC began tiring, drew clear on the turn, then swerved under pressure nearing the furlong post, recovered and held on well to the end. ESTA slipped through on the Inside to close with a belated rush through the stretch. ALCINOUS was formidably placed and had no mishap. ABBOTS MAID rallied mildly nearing the furlong post, then flattened out. YLEE BAR, running best of all through the stretch, when caught in close quarters by IDENTIC was forced to take up and never recovered. IDENTIC quit. SNAZY turned in a dull effort. BIG BROTHER, rated close to the pace while saving ground, came around HE DONT leaving the furlong post, responded to steady urging and was drawing out at the end. HE DONT was sent up fast on the outside to assume command in the first quarter, set a sizzling pace under light urging and held on gamely when displaced by the winner. SUNCLAD was a forward factor throughout and had no mishap. FLINTCOTE showed a good effort while racing down on the inside. LINWOOD BLUE broke slowly, moved into contention with a rush, then failed to rally when put to a drive. MYSHIRLEY was unable to reach the leaders under urging. PORT SAID was through after a half. BRILLIANT FLY opened up a commanding lead in the first quarter, continued to widen advantage under light urging and was smartly ridden out to hold MAGDALA safe at the end. The latter was in closest attendance of the pace from the start and was gaining under stout pressure in the final furlong. HEARTH BROOM was favorably placed and had no mishap QUIEN ES failed to improve position under intermittent pressure. SANTA ELISA was slow to begin saved ground, but was never a serious factor. OKEATING was unable to improve under pressure. FAST FEATHER had brief early spede. CLASS BOOK FELL IN THE GATE, UNSEATING RIDER AND, WHEN GATE WAS REMOVED TO FREE HER, SHE RAN OFF A HALF MILE AND WAS ORDERED SCRATCHED BY THE STEWARDS, ALL MONIES WAGERED BEING REFUNDED. LINWOOD JIM, under -a tight hold for six furlongs, saved ground entering the stretch, drew on even terms with WHAT A PLAY leaving the furlong pole, then responded to vigorous handling to draw out in the final sixteenth. WHAT A PLAY broke alertly, showed good speed in setting the pace and held on gamely when put to a drive. HALBARAIL, forwardly placed in the first quarter, was taken back off the pace, was kept under restraint until straightened in the stretch, then closed willingly under strong handling. NIGHT BOMBER was sent up fast on the inside nearing the end of the backstretch, then failed to gain under steady urging. SNAFU weakened after forcing the pace to the head of the stretch. YUKON moved up on the outside entering the stretch, loomed as a threat, then failed to respond to a hand ride through the final furlong. TRANSFRAN and GOLDBART were outrun. NEDIANA, showing improved form, was rated off the early pace to the quarter pole, responded to steady urging, wore down STARWAY inside the final sixteenth and was drawing out at the end. STARWAY disposed of KINGS FEAST, drew clear, then was roused nearing the furlong pole, but was unable to shake off the winner. HEAD SEA improved her position steadily in the final stages under intermittent pressure. BREVROME remained with the leaders under light restraint, then faltered in the late stages. JUSTINIAN II. passed tiring horses. UNITRAN slipped through on the inside entering the stretch, then flattened out. DOODLE BUG failed to respond to steady urging during the final quarter mile.
