LECARTO lacked speed to match the leaders, moved up stoutly between horses in the stretch and drew out under urging. IRONSWEEP, never far back, responded well to urging in the stretch and closed well. BROKERS TRIP moved into closer contention on the turn, went to the outside to take a short lead in the stretch, but faltered. FLASHAT had early speed to race with the leaders and on the outside on the turn, but could not keep up. BLUE FOOT closed well after being outrun early. LADY MANDY quit after showing early speed. Won driving; second and third the same RED HORIZON, slow to settle into best stride, improved his position steadily on the turn, went through on the inside and closed gamely. HARV AETHEL, well placed from the beginning, went around the leaders entering the stretch to take command, but bore out badly. SURGEON DICK, very sluggish early, moved into closer contention on the turn and finished well. SAMBO had early speed, but weakened. OLD SMOKEY was unable to engage the leaders. BACK TO BACK was never prominent. TIDY MOON quit badly. FLIGHT "SURGEON was in close quarters on the far turn and was squeezed back. Overweight Back to Back, 2 pounds. Old Smokey claimed by H. HIGH EGO had speed to open a clear lead, was steadied in front while saving ground, met the challenge of the winner boldly and Just failed to last. UP GRADE, in a contending position from the beginning, was unable to threaten. KANSHORE had some early speed while racing on the outside and weakened. BLENHARA was never prominent. OLD IRON lacked early speed, finished well to be on even terms with SWOON at the end, but did not threaten the first two. SWOON was sent to the front at once, was used up racing with PEGGYS BOY and saved ground, but weakened. PEGGYS BOY could not keep up. JOHN Q. PUBLIC was done early. VICE ADMIRAL was not hurried early, went through on the inside for the drive and made a bold bid in the stretch, but flattened out. KANTAR RUN was unable to threaten at any time.
