BULLET PROOF drew into a commanding lead leaving the backstretch and was not threatened thereafter, winning with speed in reserve. GEMSBOK was always forwardly placed and was best of the others. OREFIELD could make up no ground on the leaders. FORWARD MARCH failed to rally. BIG DUB was shuffled back on the Inside leaving the backstretch. SECOND RACE ABOUT 2 MILES. BATTLE CRUISER, always a forward factor while fencing a bit better than most of his competitors, assumed command the last time along the backstretch and held sway to win easily. FRED HAVECKER rallied from just off the pace and would Jiave been much closer had his saddle not slipped completely, making it necessary for his rider to finish bareback. QUONSET rallied from far back while jumping fairly well. PHALANGER weakened after assuming command after the first mile. KATYLEA showed nothing. HIGH TINT tired. GENANCOKE showed nothing. HADA BAR was racing with the pace when he lost rider at the twelfth jump. SCURRY GAL was prominent when she lost rider at the tenth jump. PORT MARLY fell at the second jump. MALVASET weakened and was carried out entering the stretch. MAMANIE caught only tired horses. QUICK NEWS set a swiftly early pace, then drifted out entering the stretch. HAY-JAY was forced to race wide while forwardly placed and closed willingly. UNDER COVER held on well. SGT. ABE was taken under restraint early and failed to rally. HORNBEAM, always prominent and not hurried early, responded to strong urging and outfinished CHALLAMORE. The latter was well rated while setting the pace, saved ground throughout and held on tenaciously. QUARTER MOON, forwardly placed from the beginning, showed gameness in the drive, but was between horses all through the stretch. CASSIS saved ground, but failed to rally. EQUANIMOUS closed willingly on the outside. LANLAST showed nothing. POMPION was through early. A claim of foul lodged by jockey Walters against the first horses was not allowed.
