Eight Seek Honors in Wakefield Today WILLIAM ZIEGLER, JR. Bounding Home carried his colors successfully in the Pocantico Graded Handicap at Jamaica yesterday. 1 Will and Useless To Compete Again Paley Youngster Shapes Up as Slight Choice Over Rival in Empire Fixture JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y., June 25. The thirty -fifth running of the Wakefield Stakes, a 0,000 added dash for juveniles, is the feature offering of tomorrows midweek Empire - at - Jamaica program. This dash, which will be the fifth offering of the seven-race card, has drawn a field of eight promising youngsters to dispute the six furlongs, headed by Jay Paley s I Will, who must carry 122 pounds. Eric Guerin will ride this son of Roman Breathless, who won the Great American Stakes at Aqueduct last Wednesday in impressive style, beating Colin MacLeods Useless by two lengths. Useless, who will carry 118 pounds tomorrow, a shift of eight in his favor, looms I Wills chief rival. This inaptly named colt is one of the most consistent, if not the most brilliant of his generation, and always turns in an honest performance. The others in the Wakefield are Isadore Biebers Our Tommy and Deering Howes Donor, 118 each; Wheatley Stables Kerry, and Rusty Stables Wise Friz, 114 apiece, and Ben Whitakers Lucky Reward, and W. Goadby Loews Parhelion, at 110. Several of this group have good recent form, good enough, indeed, to give them a solid chance of upsetting the choices at the weights. Lucky Reward Beaten Head on Saturday Going back, chronologically over their recent races, Lucky Reward raced well at Aqueduct last Saturday and only failed by a head in his task of beating the odds-on choice, Bastogne. The previous day Kerry graduated when romping home three lengths before Wise Friz, who had won his preceding start. The Wheatley colt had only 107 pounds up, but is a big strapping colt with a smooth action. A few days before that, Our Tommy finished a distant last behind I Will and Useless, being unable to keep up with those nimble juveniles. A week or so earlier he had beaten a fair field without much trouble. Donor has not been seen since mid-May, when he finished less than a length back of Eternal War at Belmont Park in a straightaway dash in which Useless could finish no better than fourth. The latter has improved immeasurably since then, however. Parhelion is a well-bred son of Helio-polis Jorannie who has yet to make his public debut. The chestnut youngster was a 0,300 yearling purchase. He breezed a half mile in :49 over the Jamaica strip this morning. Parhelion was the only Wakefield candidate seen on any of the three New York tracks this morning, but the others have all worked or raced well in recent days. I Will shapes up as a slight favorite over Useless in this edition of the Wakefield, with Kerry being their most dangerous rival. The son of Sir Gallahad DJ. Erin is a full brother to the good juvenile of a few years back, Bold Irishman, winner of the Pimlico Futurity at the expense of Our Boots and Whirlaway. The big fellow appears sounder than his older brother, though somewhat straight in front, and is evidently more precocious. Paul Miller will ride Kerry tomorrow, while Eddie Arcaro has the mount on Lucky Reward and Warren Mehrtens will be astride Useless. Hedley Woodhouse will pilot Wise Friz and Arnold Kirkland is to steer Donor from his outside post.
