Nips Trojan Fleet At Arlington Park Filly Responds to Dodsons Urging as Highly Favored Fighting Don Disappoints ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, HI., June 25. The Calumet Farms smart filly, Good Blood, with Doug Dodson putting up a splendid ride, gave numerous followers of the famed Devils red and blue colors a thrill here this afternoon when she battled her way to a hard earned victory in the ,000 Sation Purse six-furlong dash that featured the program before approximately 13,000 turfites here this afternoon. Hardly conceded a chance by close observers of form who sent Miss Gertrude Donovans Fighting Don postward at 1 to 2 in the wagering, Good Blood flashed fine speed and gameness to eke out a neck verdict over Bobanet Stables Trojan Fleet, while the favorite offered little during the running, to finish a well beaten third. Good Blood, a four-year-old daughter of Bull Lea Diagnosis, raced the distance in 1:10 for her creditable effort. Lead Changes Several Times. During the spirited contest, the lead changed several times. Hydrant was the first to shove his nose to the front after the break, but Calm Seas raced up with bristling animation as the field swept into the first turn. Trojan Fleet, who was in the thick of the melee for early honors, responded to Donnie Padgetts call and proceeded to open a clear advantage. He made the remainder of the bend in the fore, and it was not until the final eighth that Good Blood became a serious contender. She drew up to even terms with the Bobanet star and from there until they crossed the line the two waged an interesting fight for top honors. It was in the last seventy yards that the Calumet filly edged into a slight lead and she gradually pulled away from that point. Fighting Don failed to show his usual speed at any stage" of the race. Usually- a front runner, he failed to get to the front going down the backstretch and MacAn-drew took him very wide on the turn at a loss of ground. He closed gamely after making the final sweep exceedingly wide, but couldnt in any manner match the speed of the two leaders. Mrs. P. J. Sopsics Nellie Weed responded nicely to the smooth handling of Bobbie Campbell in the Igual Purse, secondary feature that was contested at six furlongs as the firth race. Named in honor of the dam of Assault, the Igual produced a spirited battle most of the way, with the winner drawing off through the stretph to score Continued on Pane Thirty Good Blood Wins Sation With Strong Stretch Run Gets Up to Beat Trojan Fleet by Neck in Sprint at Arlington Park Continued from Page One over the Bomar Stables Green Shed by a length and a quarter, while Dixianas Chapel Bells gave a good account of herself to finish third. Green Shed displayed excellent speed going down the backstretch, but couldnt draw clear of Nellie Weed, and the latter dashed to the front as they sped around the turn. Green Shed hung on willingly after being displaced, but was no match for the top one. J. A. Goodwins Rose Bed, a first-time starter, turned in a mild surprise in the fourth, which found a field of three- and four-year-old maidens contesting, when she led home H. G. Shoemakers Gee Style to the wire by a length and half, while Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Hoppers Grado Primero was a game going third. With Freddie Smith in the saddle, Rose Bed, after at first refusing to enter the stalls, broke like a flash and in a short ime was well clear of her field. She breezed into the stretch a length and a half to the good and there Smith settled down to hard riding. It was well that he did, for Cee Style, who was a bit sluggish getting in stride, showed a powerful effort. The gelding tried to move through on the inside at the turn but was blocked. He then tried to get through an opening between horses, but was once again impeded. Finally he obtained clear sailing and during the last quarter he came with a splendid burst of speed. Dixianas promising Big Casino, a son of Easy Mon-First Class, finally graduated from the maiden ranks after finishing second in his only two previous starts, when he easily trounced a field of two-year-olds in the opener. Two and one-half lengths in back of the chestnut colt came the Bomar Stables Slamaranth, while the Brolite Farms Stammy took the show. Don MacAndrew the Quincy, Mass., veteran, who recently was discharged from the Navy, continued his spectacular riding here when he kept the River Divide Farms One Blue going long enough to stave off the tenacious closing bid of Leo Gerngross Sylvia Dear and capture the third heat, a five and one-half furlong race for juveniles. The foursome stables confirmation was third.
